I am not sure exactly what their purpose is. The chief building inspector says that they do not have to protect the building at all because the arch. Has compartmentalized the building into 4 - 3,000 sq ft compartments which kicks them out of the greater than 30 people chart.
The building is classified as "S" btw. Therefore since sprinklers are not required he is happy with corridor only. I of course informed him of the "if you go you have to go all the way" requirement and he blew me off and there we are.
