Being right and doing things right is easy to defend. Just write a check
and pay the attorney until he works it out.

I guess the statement that bothers me is the drawings that says
"sprinklers to be provided in corridors only. (per code)"

The (per code) gets me. Like you said, I can pass on it but I want to
learn.

Thank you,

What's to defend? The building doesn't require any sprinklers at all.
I've yet to see a protected mini-warehouse facility, even those built to
be occupied for business purposes adjacent to storage units.

If there's still a level of discomfort either pass on the job or put
disclaimers on the drawings and bid stating that the sprinkler system
does not comply with the intent of XYZ Code and Standards for a fully
sprinkled facility and that you as the designer/installer will not
guarantee it's function for the protection of the building, it's
contents or occupants, blah, blah blah.....

I understand that, but do I really want to try to defend us in the event
of a fire that starts in a non-sprinklered storage unit and overruns the
sprinklers in the corridor?

Maybe in another type of occupancy; but I have helped people move before
and I have seen the partially filled plastic gas cans and lawnmowers,
weedeaters and gas grill LP bottles, etc in these units.

Scary to me.

Greg, NFPA 13 recognizes that under certain conditions, partial
sprinkler systems may be installed as allowed or required by other
standards or codes.
Section 8.1 and 8.1.1 (07) along with A.8.1 and A.8.1.1 and the
commentary in the handbook will give you the details.
