I've kind of been tied up a few days after my snow outing so haven't jumped
back into the scanner issue. I haven't been crosscountry skiing in a
number of years but now I remember that it doesn't work well during spring
skiing when the surface layer becomes crusted. My German Shepherd had an
equally hard time because she kept breaking through with almost every step
and sunk almost to her stomach. Oh well, it was still good to get out of
the house and into the wilds.

Anyeay, so far my scsi ports have worked fine with a bunch of CDRW's I've
been testing under OSX, so I know the scsi bus is operable. ASP also sees
my DDS3/DAT drive although I don't have the new Retrospect software to run
it under OSX yet. And at least with Vuescan I can now see the scanner in
the ASP which wasn't possible before. It definitely requires the scanner be
turned on before booting up in order to work at all. Interesting, back in
the OS 7 and 8 days, Apple used to state that all scsi peripherals had to be
turned on before booting up. Of course I never followed this advice and
they worked fine, now I guess I have to listen.

I haven't downloaded Silverfast yet but I might try that next week sometime
if I can't get Vuescan working.

Phillip, no doubt the end result may be to have to swap my scsi scanner for
a usb version, but not yet. I'm sure there are a few things I haven't tried
to make this one work. I may also contact the Vuescan author as Paul
suggested. I don't think I will attempt the Linux route as that is pretty
foreign to me. I still haven't been able to get Cups and GimpPrint to work
with my Okidata OL410e so my success rate w/ Cups with my serial printer is
zilch so far except for a few blurps. Hopefully that will work soon but
it's not as critical now as I got my main printer back online with new ink.

To surmise, I guess these are two of those sucky areas of demarcation when
upgrading our old machines to OSX. Now I just have to slug through to find
a possible workaround.

Thanks All,

Dave
