Well here's the prognosis on using the HP Iicx SCSI Scanner and so far there
is good news and bad news. Thanks for all the suggestions thus far!

I downloaded the Vuescan software and now I can see the scanner in the ASP.
This is good. But when I start up Vuescan with the scanner on, it just
hangs forever and the spinning wheel just keeps on spinning. Interestingly,
Force Quit has no effect on the app. This is the first app I have ever come
across that won't force quit in OSX. Ultimately I just have to restart the
computer. I read one other post using Vuescan's YahooGroup that had the
same results but there were no suggestions.

I had the scanner on at bootup. I tried turning off the International
Button as suggested but that didn't help. Also could not find a Button
Manager in my Sys Prefs/Login Items. But since I know Vuescan is
responsible for now being able to see the scanner in the ASP, it might just
be a matter of working out a few more bugs.

Interestingly, the app will open normally if the scanner is not turned on.
This is probably a good clue, of course possibly meaning the scanner is not
supported :(. It is also the only item in the scsi chain and it is
terminated.

I also tried the scanner in Classic but it doesn't seem to want to connect
that way either. Not sure what's going on yet here. Of course I can use
the scanner while normally booted in OS9 but this just won't work long term.

I haven't tried Silverfast under OSX yet but I may download that later
today. However I note that the IIcx isn't on the Supported List. So I'll
just have to try.

Not sure I want to go the cable interface change yet but I guess that is
always a distant backup plan.

Any ideas on why Vuescan hangs and how to correct this would be welcome.

Thnx,

Dave
