When I first joined my new ISP [they were a new company and I was user
#46 counting their private & business accounts] the top techie was
really accessible. He didn't bat an eye when I asked for the info I
needed to hook up NetTamer and get it going, nor at the fact I was using
DOS.

But when it came time to hook up the cable modem, a lot of people at the
ISP were thinking I was crazy -- particularly when I *bought* my cable
modem rather than renting it from the City [my "official provider," with
my ISP the contractor], because many of them were sure I'd never be able
to use it. I finally got around to getting the NIC installed, called
the city ofc to have cable modem turned on at their switching site, and
they then called ISP to call me and walk me through. I found out that
the ISP had me "set up" on the server for months, but I wasn't getting
'query/connect' sequence from the main server. The tech did a couple of
things, I did a couple of [dumb] things he suggested, and then he did
something and I told him "Stop! Whatever you did, it's working now." He
said something like "that's good" but you could hear him gasp when I
finished with "Congratulations! You've just helped with getting the
first DOS cable modem user up and running." <G> I'm sure he went to
some of the other techs, or the boss, to ask if I was pulling his leg.
