Sorry this is a bit off-topic, but it's been bugging me: Can someone explain to me the reasoning behind selling online stuff? No, wait -- what I really mean is, can someone explain the rationale behind *buying* online accounts/items? According to my research, games are fun because you actually PLAY them. What motivates someone to actively seek out and purchase in-game items for $100, $200, or more is beyond me...
Munchkinism. Some folks want to start out at the top or have it all. You can't can't really buy your way into high society in most places ('nouveau riche' is a put-down), but you can in a game. Power-gaming through your pocket-book, I guess.
For sellers it can be great. A friend sold his UO account for enough to cover his two years with the game. He figured he was ahead because he got to effectively enjoy himself for a couple of years for free.
