That's interesting. Pretty much what I guess. Which means the 512k Mac cannot truly network with most new Macs because of the 2GB limit. But I'm surprised a 512k Mac can even get past that 20MB limit I read about in MacWorld. Or maybe that only pertains to HD's attached to the 512? But another issues, above and beyond the GB size of HD's is the fact that the 512 cannot display more than a couple thousand files in a single folder -- at least, that's what I read. So let's say you mount a 1GB partition on an SE/30, what would happen if you tried to open a folder on the SE/30 from the 512 which has, say, 5,000 files in it? I would guess the 512 would crash? > I had a 400k boot disk that booted System 2.0 with > AppleShare and then loaded the HD 20 INIT. Or maybe > it loaded the HD 20 INIT and then AppleShare. Anyway, > you get the picture. You are probably familiar with this INIT. Curious. So basically you are saying that you cannot connect to newer Macs at all from the Mac 512 without first loading the HD20 init? Yes, I am familiar with the init, but I thought it was only needed when connecting the Apple HD20 or 800k floppy drives to the Mac 512. I was not aware it was needed to access networked Macs with large HD's.
