Great idea Ruth. I don't always have needles handy when I'm weaving, but I always have yarn. If you make a loop of yarn and put it thru the last two picks the same way you would the needles, it works the same way. 8-]

Here is a hint I learned from an inkle weaver. When I learned tabletweaving, we were told to leave a long tail on the last pick and then weave it back into the previous pick. Sometimes, particularly when the band is woven with fine threads, it can be difficult to get the needle back through the appropriate shed.

An easier way is to include a needle in the shed of each of the two picks before the last pick (or maybe in tabletweaving, which doesn't easily come unraveled--as inkle weaving does--only the next-to-the-last pick), paying attention to getting the eye on the side where your thread tail will be. Then weave the last pick, cut the thread, thread it through the eye & pull the needle through. After the needle is out of the shed, you can beat again to pack those last few picks in a bit tighter. If your band is rather wide, check at your local sewing store (or a Clotilde or Nancy's Notions catalogue) for "doll needles." These are used by makers of soft sculpture dolls and are about 4" or 5" long.
