(and if you need yet another hobby, pewter casting isn't all that difficult,
and the materials are fairly inexpensive)

An alternative to learning pewter casting might be Precious Metal Clay. It is worked like clay, but after it has been fired in a small, table-top kiln, the clay-like medium disintegrates, leaving only the silver or gold, which starts as fine particles but is fused into a solid metal in the kiln. I've seen wonderful findings made out of PMC. I plan to take a class in this great stuff sometime next fall or winter.
