Hey Dennis,
This is one of those times when you oughta take a deep breath before
you hit the "send" button. We're not talking about levels of talent or
a person's ability to play or not. Mostly the home folks are bragging
on the local boy, others are acknowledging their talent but are not
moved by the performance, others are talking about siblings who can
tear it up, so on and so forth on this rambling topic. If jealousy or
envy enters into this, then count me in too. I'm envious of their
accomplishments at such an early age and all the opportunities that
await them down the road, not in what they play because I play the
style I want to play. I actually LIKE bluegrass and oldtime and pretty
much have no tolerance for jazz. It's not that I couldn't play it if
that was what I was into. It's that I don't want to play it, don't
want to learn anything about it because it doesn't speak to me(unless
Ella Fitzgerald is singing it). I've seen/heard a number of
bluegrassers who, once they learn how to play at a certain level,
decide they are jazz players. This has been covered before. I'd rather
be a great bluegrasser than a crappy jazz player, or vice versa.

Hey, I'm one of those guys who pissed away a lot of time and energy
when I was a kid out rambling around, partly not having direction,
partly trying to overcome my Dad's condemnation for me not being "like
everybody else"(apparently having a mandolin player in the house was
an embarrassment), and partly out doing drugs and whatnot to forget
it. There's more involved in your response to Brian's comment than
meets the eye. You and I have had a conversation about this. I know
you have very strong feelings regarding some of the points you brought
up.

Brian has plenty of talent. So do you. What have you been doing with
yours lately? I don't get the weekly visit from you anymore. Oh, and
please stop attaching all the spay and neuter messages to your
messages here. We get it.

Simmer down, Otis.
