As always, the answer is, "it depends."  If I were the sole manager
of a 20+ person tech pubs group (which I have been), I would be
on the lookout for individuals who were able to take over some
management tasks or could be groomed to do it at a later time.
In a very small group that primarily needed an extra set of hands,
it might be a negative if you gave the impression that it was a
relatively short term goal.

"Corporations" are seldom on the lookout for any particular
type of person, despite the PR in their websites' careers
pages.  The perceptions of value that matters is that of your
perspective manager.
