This web interface to the MySQL db also generates a .pdf on the fly for those users that want to print something to take home and hang on the fridge.

And, just this week I started pulling data from this system for our website.

http://www.bths201.org/east/Academics/BE_CTE_Dept.asp

The Directory data shown here is sucked in from a php script in an iFrame.

The actual staff directory web site is password protected so staff can login in and view home addresses, numbers, etc.

Along with our "less paper" goals, we're also trying to consolidate as many databases as we can and re-use info. It doesn't make sense to have to re-enter all this crap in all the different places it needs to be.

Next, we'll be building a report for our office staff with this data and getting rid of the horrible word doc that another secretary maintains and prints for everyone's desk folder thingy.

We make our SIS product be the go to place for any data storage and

a mysql database. That database has additional table fields we want to
store for each staff member our SIS product does not. Then there’s a web
interface for staff to search this database. No documents are ever
printed or distributed. If a staff member wants to be “unlisted” we set
the “unlisted” flag in the mysql database. This has helped with our less
paper mantra and the info is always up to date this way.

We maintain a master directory that is maintained by the tech dept
secretary. She makes any updates to it and sends it out as a Word and
PDF document at least once a year (sometimes again in the spring if
there are a lot of changes). Typically it doesn’t change much after the
start of the school year.

How does everyone deal with their staff phone list for calling out?

For students it is easy as there is the student management system that
can handle it. But right now for staff we have the paper copy that is
added to in the offices, but not always put in an electronic format or
in a central location. I really want to build a list for me to put in
the phone system. We use Skyward for the Student side of things, I can't
pull staff info out of the system, or at least not phone numbers, unless
I am missing things.

I really hate finding that the system was used and we didn't have staff
phone numbers listed.

Thanks,

Dan
