Indeed it's not very likely that GPS would become unavailable and that's 
not the reason to seek diversity.

The quality of any timing device improves when it is using multiple 
sources and/or network paths. For the same reason BPM involves dozens of 
sources in the compilation of UTC, not just the single one that proved 
the most accurate.
I frankly admit it is a bit theoretical in our situation, GPS easily 
fullfills the accuracy needs for any NTP server. Still many servers have 
DCF or WWV receivers as second source, although ntpd never selects them.
Curiosity and love for the experiment is another important drive. My 
friends never stop explaining me that I don't need sub-millisecond 
accuracy and that they really don't mind if I show up several seconds 
late in the pub. And of course they're absolutely right.

I bet that goes without exception for all the pool members, but still 
here we are, experimenting with our NTP servers and some of us even 
looking for other time sources than GPS...
