NTP prefers higher-stratum good clocks, but it prefers good clocks with low
jitter more.

Is this what you're looking for:
host pool.ntp.org | awk '{print $4}' | xargs ntpq -p
...? (Replace "ntpq -p" with "ntpq -c as -c peers ..." :-)
