Vic,

This is correct. There would be no mandatory requirements anymore regarding the
use of CTR's. However, like you also suggest, customers of manufacturers may
still require to see that a "familiar" standard, CTR or Directive has been used
as a basis for proving compliance with the essential requirements. That is also
why I didn't mention this. This will become mainly an (commercial) issue between
manufacturers and their customers.

In addition to your remark; the use of the Directives 89/336 (EMC) and 73/23
(LVD) for proving compliance with the essential requirements would also no
longer be required when the R&TTE Directive will come into force (except for
protection and safety requirements and certain conformity assessment
procedures). But then again; customers are nowadays familiar with the use of
these Directives so they might not want to see something else.

Best regards,
Pieter

Thanks Pieter.

Perhaps you should have added a note that CTRs will disappear when the new
R&TTE Directive comes into force, and manufacturers will be free to choose
their
technologies (inasmuch as their customers want those) but must comply with
the
"essential requirements" of the R&TTE Directive. Don't throw your CTRs
away in
the meantime.

Ciao,
