I am following you somewhat, but not all the way. Truth is always surrounded by what a mathematician would call statistical noise. In other words, there is no forum on this earth where truth is present without some noise also being present. Paul said it this way: 1 Corinthians 11:18-19 (18) For first of all, when ye come together in the church, I hear that there be divisions among you; and I partly believe it. (19) For there must be also heresies among you, that they which are approved may be made manifest among you. If any of us would ever think we are in a church or forum where the truth is all that is heard, then something would be dreadfully wrong. God has not meant it to be this way. TruthTalk is no different. There will be truth, and there will be some noise along with it. Those who read and study for themselves will discover the truth. The difference between me and Dean / Judy is not that great. I simply think those who ascribe murderous hatred to Calvin are going too far. Was Calvin intolerant? Yes. Did he call Servetus dog and various other names in his Institutes of the Christian Religion? Yes. Did he think Servetus someone who deserved capital punishment? Yes. That is not the same thing as saying that he had murderous hatred in his heart toward Servetus, nor does it mean that he personally murdered him, or as I read someone else describe it, "Calvin brutally tortured Servetus." We have to be careful not to misrepresent history, or to falsely accuse another person. The real difference comes down to the fact that neither Dean nor Judy have read Calvin's Institutes or other writings, nor have they read Servetus, so they are going on second hand opinion from various sources. Not going to the primary sources and searching for themselve puts them at a disadvantage. They wonder why my perspective is not the same as their's. Well, I have read Calvin and Servetus and they have not. The real interesting thing here is that unlike some of our discussions on the Bible, we have not gone to translation problems and arguing over rightly translating the words of Calvin and Servetus. :-) Aren't you glad we have stayed away from that? :-) Peace be with you.
