Percious, I'd like to focus on the above statement alone and set aside
everything else for the moment. I hope my comments are constructive,
this is my honest intention.
I sincerely disagree with your statement. I do not think that in order
to have a viable product the core team needs to focus on technology. I
think in order to have a viable product the core team needs to focus a
lot more on documentation/website/infrastructure/marketing/etc even if
this means less time/resource is available for actual coding
("technology").
This might sound counter intuitive but I think this is definitely the
case for tg. I'm guessing the main problem is that the project could
use more developers. This would result in more time/resource for
coding as well as documentation/website/infrastructure/marketing/etc.
How to get more developers? The only way, I think, is by increasing
visibility of tg, increasing its popularity. Technologically it's
already superior to other frameworks in many respects, the only aspect
that is lagging behind is
documentation/website/infrastructure/marking/etc.
It might sound like a chicken-and-egg problem, and for some software
projects the technology is not good enough and they first need to
improve that, and then write documentation/etc, but for tg it's
definitely the opposite. The technology is already there,
documentation/marketing/etc is missing.
So I'd say for your own sake (as a developer) it would make more sense
to work on the documentation/website/infrastructure/marketing/etc side
of things, even at the expense of coding less, because in the long run
this will bring in new developers and new users which will mean that
you (as a developer) will have more time to code and improve the
technology. In the short term of course less code would be written but
in the long run you will be rewarded greatly by a bigger community.
I really like tg and the whole community, I use tg1 without an issue
and my motivation for this comment is a sincere desire to help with
constructive criticism.
Cheers,
Daniel
