I know RubyRipper has already been mentioned in this thread, and in fact
the poster said they ran into problems with it, but I've had great luck
with this program.  It is now my ripper of choice.

I'm certainly not a ripping expert, but from what I've read about the
program it definitely *sounds* like you should be able to get accurate
rips with it.  Admittedly most of the CD's I rip are new(ish), but I've
never had any issues using it at all.  It has all the features I like; a
GUI front-end, CDDB look-up, ability to change tags prior to ripping,
etc.  One feature I really like it the ability to rip to multiple
formats at once.  So, for example, if you want flac files for use with
your Squeeze/Slim stuff, and mp3 files for use with an iPod or other
portable device you just select both codecs and start the rip.
