As I have previously stated, I view this list as a newsgroup on Gmane
using Thunderbird, which cannot filter on the Moderated header.
So you're using another method to access a mail list. Is the list
supposed to accomodate that?
Gmane will not allow you to post to a mailing list unless you are
subscribed to the list in email form. I'm not sure about other mailing
list <=> usenet gateways, though.
But the unsubscribed poster is *not* posting to a news group. S/he's
posting to a mailing list. The respondent might be posting to a news
group but this doesn't help the OP.
Also, At least one mail program, namely Outlook Express, does *not* let
you filter on the "Delivered To:" header which is necessary if you want
to flag messages from unsubscribed posters. In addition, if you read the
list in e-mail form via a web browser (say Gmail via Firefox), chances
are you will *not* be able to filter on that header either.
I don't understand the people who say they can't be bothered to
determine if the questioner is unsubscribed. If you reply to an
unsubscribed poster without including his/her address in the To: or cc:
list the poster won't see your message and you will have completely
wasted your own time as well as everybody else's *and* the OP won't have
received the benefit of your wisdom. What's the point? I'd guess
something like 40% of threads in this list are started by unsubscribed
posters. If your replies aren't being seen by those people then 40% of
your replies are a complete waste of your efforts. You might as well
spend your time painting coal black. If you want an environment in which
all posters must be subscribed, go and support the forum.
