So you expect all volunteers to waste their valuable time searching

No. I know plenty of subscribers do take this trouble and I know that
questioners are grateful for that. (I didn't consider setting up a
simple filter to mark moderated messages a waste of my time, in fact.)
As I have previously stated, I view this list as a newsgroup on Gmane
using Thunderbird, which cannot filter on the Moderated header.
All *I* ask is that anyone not prepared to take this time or effort
either doesn't contribute or accepts that their messages may not get
to questioners (and doesn't complain when they don't).
So you expect me to search the headers of every email to see if the
poster is subscribed or not?
This is a mailing list, not a help desk.
You've hit the nail on the head here. Except, no: you haven't. You
have accurately identified the nail, but you have neatly missed it and
squarely hit your thumb instead. As must be clear from the web site -
and contrary to what you claim - this mailing list *is* a help desk:
that's exactly how it functions. As the web site says of it,
"OpenOffice.org Project community support provided by a network of
hundreds of experienced users" and "For questions relating to the use
of OpenOffice.org (the application). A very popular and effective list".
That is describing a mailing list, not a help desk. The last line of
your quote says so: "A very popular and effective list". You also missed
this on http://support.openoffice.org/ :
Users Mail List (Subscribe / Archives)
OpenOffice.org Project community support provided by a network of
hundreds of experienced users. You must be subscribed to post messages.
It say "Users Mail List", not "Help Desk".
It also says "You must be subscribed to post messages" so why can people
post to this list without being subscribed?
