That's an interesting solution. Especially that it can be done by a side-car server that essentially receives the mailing list and reforwards messages as needed.
It's not something that I have the chops for, but it is interesting. It is also interesting that each Apache committer has a FreeBSD account running on people.apache.org. (I've only been on users@ OO.o since this Summer, so I do excuse you.) Have you ever seen this done? I am sure there are some interesting edge cases that would come up and need to be added to the cases. Still, it seems that an unsubscribed-user responder bot would be workable. If the dummy e-mail address is a moderator account as well, it can request the mailing list automatically from time to time. Me, I will NOT do this for a bunch of reasons, that go from not having in full all the requirements above to the thought that some of the [email protected] people who insisted for years that the "resending-copy to non-subscribed posters" are still around on the new aoo/libreoffice lists, so they would keep doing things that way.
