On this list, perhaps - but I think I recall Dennis H saying, two posts up-thread, that the Apache lists had no similar flag.

In my opinion, mailing lists should not allowed postings without
subscribing. It is time consuming and a pain in the ass for people
providing support.

I used to feel the same way. But if you want happy customers, you have to deal with the very newbies who wouldn't know a mailing list from an Arctic gale. Some people simply haven't the slightest clue about mail lists (or forums for that matter). Yet I agree it's a right royal pain having to answer the same questions over and over, and then yet again. Which brings me back to my [possibly Bayes-based] autoresponder idea that's just been so thoroughly knocked on the head.
