Agreed; it's been IMO the cause of newbies wondering why they don't get
help, and of endless meta-discussions on the list: effort might have
been better directed.
I'll make the suggestion again that I've made before - how about
arranging that subscribed users get to post to the list, unsubscribed
get their queries directed to some sort of 'bot that tries to analyze
their query and give a likely response (and tells them the benefits of
subscribing). Bayes anyone?
