Don:
I spent a little time worrying about that and I think you can make it a
little difficult, but not much... I would use a lock to keep the ball
receiver down and replace the quick release pins with cotter keys...I do
remember an email where a strut suddenly turned up missing...mine is in a
storage lot right now and gets a lot of attention from visitors...( maybe
if I paint it black, it won't stand out so much..I was told at the Hensley
gathering that the original hitches were black)

I have been advised to record the serial number and not rely on the label
on the hitch... ( which would be gone if the hitch was stolen...) I think
you could make a claim on your insurance if it was stolen, but I don't want
to find out that mine is not covered for some reason... I think I will talk
to the insurance agent....would a hood or a trunk be covered if someone
stripped it off the truck??? Maybe a motorcycle locking cable would go
around the head and lock behind the frame during storage??? I really don't
want to take it off as part of winterizing....

Have fun with your hitch....

Figure between 3 to 6 hours of hot water between battery replacements. Marine
systems tend to rely on constantly running marine engines. Should make your
battery acid safe to drink quite rapidly. I'd go with the propane for
boondocking.

Don, the Hensley is attached using a number of pins and retainer clips. If
you are concerned about theft use padlocks instead of the pins. It's not
fool proof (nothing is to a determined thief with unlimited access) but it
will discourage the less than absolutely committed.

Had a little telephonic set-to the other day - seems my regional unit really
wants me to 're-up', whereas i'd rather join the WBCCI's WDCU, retain my

cleared up... I contacted the WBCCI about this several weeks ago, but

Hey Bob,
Just to let everyone know! There was a Typo in this months VA.
It has me listed as 3rd VP. That Title still belongs to Bob Herman.

I have been asked to move into that position at the 2002 Installation
of VAC officers in Rapid City, SD.

The cork floor was a great addition to our last outing for the winter.
What I need now is a way to finish off the edge.

On the counters of my '73, there is a plastic tape/moulding that is
stuck over the gaps and between the counter top and the wall. I want
something like that.

First problem is what is it called ?

And where can I get it ?

If this is true, meaning the 12 volts, as a hot water heater, they will
be about worthless. This is only 350 watts for the big heater, 29 amp.
It will take it about two minute to heat a cup of water so it will be
warm enough to wash your hands.
At home, I use an instant water heater that runs on 240 volt. It draws
9000 watts and is only adequate.

Tuna, you are right and the other unit folks are misinformed. The WDCU is
unit 170 of WBCCI. I get a little of the same "encouragement" from the local
unit of WBCCI where I was a member for a number of years (including
membership chairman) until I sold a previous Airstream and dropped out of
WBCCI all together. When I got my current ' 68 Airstream I joined WDCU as a
member and the local unit as an affiliate. That means the WDCU includes me
for voting purposes and the local unit does not. That seems to be the bone
of contention. Something about trying to be number one I believe.

Hang tough.

I'd think the larger danger would be to have pieces stolen; that's
what happened to me, when a visitor to the Top O'Georgia stole one of my
spring jacks. I now have locks instead of pins in the U-bolts, and use a
chain across the U-bolt locks and around the A-frame when I'm leaving it
for a long while.
I keep a long-hasp lock on the hitch pin, which serves both to
lock the hitch onto the trailer, and to hold/guide my breakaway and
electric pigtail (it's ok to lock the Hensley, since you couldn't
effectively take it off in an emergency - finding the key and unlocking
your locked hitchpin would be the least of your problems. ;-).
You're right to worry about theft, especially if your trailer is
left unattended in an unattended area for long periods of time. Get a lock
for the hitchpin, and locks + chain for the spring bar jacks. Someone
familiar with the hitch and having a really lot of free time might still
make off with parts, but it wouldn't be easy.

Hi Don,

Just my two cents worth and I think there's a good reason to have theft
insurance. Nothing will keep a determined thief from taking stuff off you
unit. I think the best defense against stuff happening is to be prepared
and lock what you can, stow the rest, and take the lumps when they happen.
Then, I'd shoot the bastards if I catch them!

It's my understanding you can belong to as many "units" as you desire...
usually the dues are very low and belonging to a remote unit like the WDCU
could go along with a local unit....It would be difficult to make many WDCU
activities from the midwest, let alone the western states....

You can also be a 'member-at-large', however for some unknown reason this requires you
to cough up an extra $10 or so to WBCCI with your annual dues - guess they don't want
anyone to avoid joining a local unit to save money.

Tuna,
I am a charter member of the WDCU and I have never
thought of it as the 'home unit of the VAC'.
We welcome anyone, in fact, we are a true
International Unit as we have members from the UK and
Canada. And yes, they do attend our Rallies.

Greg,
WDCU stands for Washington DC Unit. It is the newest
unit formed in the WBCCI. The first in almost 10
years, I believe. It is also the fastest growing unit.

You can also be a 'member-at-large', however for some unknown reason this

The $10.00 goes to the unit not International. $10.00 pays for unit supplies
newsletters ect.

It's my understanding you can belong to as many "units" as you desire...
usually the dues are very low and belonging to a remote unit like the WDCU
could go along with a local unit....It would be difficult to make many WDCU
activities from the midwest, let alone the western states....

Jim, If you are a member of the WBCCI you may participate in any units
rallies. You do not have to be a unit member or associate member to do so.
Just make a call to the rally organizer and let them know you want to come to
make sure there is space.

No, a member-at-large doesn't belong to a unit, so I am not sure where the extra money
goes. I just looked up the WBCCI application, and it's worse than I remembered - a
regular member pays $45 plus unit dues, but a member at large pays $60. What is the

I believe that a WBCCI member can belong to only one unit. This is because
his vote on WBCCI matters is through his unit. However, I believe you can
be an affiliate to as many units as you want. Regarding the WDCU
(Washington DC Unit) the member dues are $5 per year since we do not have
any postage expenses. We send our newsletter via email.

Your right just as I hit send I realized I was thinking of an associate
member. Can't tell you what the extra $15 for. Might as well join a unit. Any
number of them could use your help. Ours has vacancies.
