Hello
I just started working at a Winnebago dealership, we do not have an Airst=
ream dealer here or I'd be working for them, but we don't and I needed a =
job, any way we use the same two keys to lock all the different coaches a=
nd trailers on the lot. I have tried the compartment doors yet. Only been=
there four days.
We do have a 91 Airstream coach and a 1990 29 footer, so I get to admire =
them until someone takes them away.

Charlie,
I surprised the heck outa my friend when we were camped together. He
has a pretty new (1993, I think) SOB, I had the 1968 A/S. My compartment
key opened his compartments!
I had a couple of spares, but sent them to someone on the List. If
someone else could duplicate their key and send it to Kerri, it'd
probably work.

Don't forget about the silent recall on Goodyear ST-225 Marathon tires. I
had my 5 replaced in Sept. with the next size load range (D). The
replacements have circle "S" after the name Marathon. 65 psi on the max.
inflation. Mine were .009" as compared to the new .011" depth, so it cost me
77.00 per tire, 88.00 on the new spare. 194.00 bucks for new tires that are
better than priors.
That's about it for now..

Hello
I just started working at an RV dealership and we got a 1990 Airstream in=
on a trade.
I can get it for $7000.00 but really don't need it, but then again the pr=
ice is right.
Does any one know much about the newer 90's Airstream?
Any thing in particular I should look for?
If someone else is interested let me know. =20

I bought my 65 Caravel no locks for the compartments and I lost the
key to the door on the trip home.
A call to the locksmith. He replaced all the keys, said the
compartment were a generic lock common to trailers and boats. It was $35 for
the house call but worth the trouble of driving aimlessly around.

I talked to Goodyear customer service yesterday and the tire swap is only if
you have Load range D. She (Maria) described it as a tire upgrade, and not
a recall. Apparently there are problems with the Load range D tires and the
improved tire has the "s" after radial on the tire. When I told her that
mine were load range C, she informed me that I was not eligible. I missed
the original post on tire recall, so if someone can explain it better, or
set it straight, please do.

The Landyacht is one of the more overworked names in the Airstream
corral. Over the years it has been a model, a trim level, and since 1990
the chosen designator for most of their flat sided motorhomes. So it
depends were you've seen it and how old it is.

The Argosy was made by Airstream in a plant in Versailles, OH. near
Jackson Center. While it shared many features and construction
techniques with the Airstream, in some cases features were first tried
on the Argosy. A good example is the large front wrap windows. As others
on the list will tell you there are lots of good things and a few not so
good things about their Argosy's.

Hi Bobby,
You didn't say but I assume it is the trailer model. I have an '89
and love it but would change two things. First the clear coat decided
this year it had enough of our Texas sunshine, blistered, dried up
and fell off of the top of the trailer. Second, it has developed two leaks
at the rear of the trailer at the lower trim line and rotted the floor
in two places. I gave $10K for the '89 two years ago, so your $7K is
a good deal if it is in great shape with everything working and no
clear coat or leak problems. Let us know if you buy it.

Alright, alright, I'm biting! I have owned two Argosys and two =
Airstreams and prefer Argosy, although I love both.
#1 - I am NOT into polishing aluminum. I don't polish my silver, why =
would I take on a whole trailer?
#2 - If an Airstream gets a dent, you can whistle "Dixie" for the hassle =
of fixing it. Argosy? Put a little auto body filler, sand it and paint =
it.
#3 - Argosys stay cooler in the heat. Maybe the white paint reflects =
better? Dunno.
#4 - Argosys have a steel front end and rear end cap in the frame, and =
they do not get those road dings and dents from stones.
#5 - When Airstream was putting in all that heavy, expensive wood =
cabinetry and lots of other fancy trimmings and gadgets, they cheated in =
the Argosys by putting in cheap lightweight cabinets and no extras. It =
is much lighter in weight and has less things to have to fix to make it =
"right" as a vintage unit.
#6 - As someone mentioned earlier, they have those big front wrap =
windows, and I LOVE light. (Trailers can feel claustrophobic to me.)
#7 - The 28' models came with a rear bedroom option, and those units =
have the big wrap windows in the back, too!
#8 - An Argosy owner can belong to the WBCCI, which wasn't always true.
#9 - They are cheaper to buy than an Airstream!!! And you can be =
VINTAGE!!! =20
For your info, as far as I know, Argosys were only made from 1970 to =
1979 in the wonderful Airstream-shaped body. They might have come out =
square in the early 80's, but I don't know. Argosys have all the same =
great Airstream undercarriage and tow like a dream. The later Argosys =
from 1977 on are wonderful in their inside decor, plus they have all the =
regular stuff like black and grey water tanks. Grey water tanks =
probably started around 75? =20
=20
If you can find one with additional options like the Vista View =
windows, fan in the bath, optional lights, etc., they are every bit as =
nice as an Airstream and much easier to maintain.

You have the Goodyear "tire recall" straight. Not sure what happened in

Hi Sara,
For two years as Snowbirds, we parked our Vintage Airstream in Panama City
on the bay beside the Lynn Haven bridge. A few years ago, the campground was
turned into a condominium. BUT --
During those two winters, we checked out every RV park in the area. There is
a county park near Lynn Haven. It might be a convenient spot for you. We
didn't care for the ambiance.
There are several RV parks in downtown Panama Beach (Emerald Coast,
Magnolia Beach, KOA, Park Place and others) and west out of town toward
Panama City Beach (Ocean Park), but each charges high retail ($25-30).
Ocean Park is a membership system campground. If you plan to live in Panama
City for several years and use your Airstream regularly (weekends) at a
nearby park, it might pay to buy a "used membership" ($500) in Ocean Park
(check their bulletin board and read the "recreation" classifieds).
The least expensive place we found ($10 per night) was Pine Log State Forest
with no buy-in costs, but it was far from any town or village.
St. Andrews State Park is always available, but a reservation is necessary
for staying there during March. Call several months in advance (tomorrow).
If you are military or related to a serviceman stationed at Tyndall AFB,
there's is always the FamCamp, but's it's not cheap and a month in March is
peak season. Retired military have preference.
Near the AFB are two Mom & Pop parks (Nautical Point 850-871-2413) and
another, one block away. Both properties are on the bay. Each is more
moderately priced than the commercial campgrounds near Hathaway Bridge.
There are 4+ campgrounds in Mexico Beach (28 miles east on US98). We stayed
at Rustic Sands and found it convenient to Panama City. The beach is easily
accessible for walking. We found fantastic shells on that beach.
If you join "Passport America" at Rustic Sands, the per night cost is 1/2
price (less than $10 per night) for as long as they'll let you stay. It may
be a week or more, but at that price, it might be worth the inconvenience of
moving to another campground for the remainder of the month. Plus, the 1/2
price rate is in effect all year long on a space available basis. Ask them.
Pine Lake RV Park in Fountain has the same deal with Passport America, is
about 30 miles from Panama City and is on a lake. The advertise unlimited
stay on the 1/2 price rate which suggests the location may not be popular.
Hope this helps. You have time to track down your options. Be persistent.
Terry

Subject: Trailer Transportation from IN to CA
I am looking for as cost efficient way as possible to get a 1956
Airstream Caravanner in good working and towing condition transported
from Peru, IN to Santa Cruz, CA (2,300 miles) or as geographically close
as possible. Transportation can take place any time in the next 180
days.
Does anyone know of a service or individuals who might be interested in
towing and or vacationing in the trailer out to CA. I have a budget of
around $1,500 to $2K to get it out here.
If necessary I can meet someone in route within a 1,000 miles of Santa
Cruz.
Thanks,
Charles

Hi,
What is the length of the trailer, what kind of hitch? I might give it a
try if I decide to travel to California for vacation as my '69 Safari isn't
towable. I have a Ford 250 Power Stroke diesel.
It's worth considering.

My camping guide gives Grayton Beach Recreation Area
a 10 (out of a possible 10). 1-850-231-4210. Same guide gives St. Andrews
State Recreation Area a 9. Max stay 14 days.1-850-233-5140.
