I have tried two different multipiece rods and was scared to death of them from first experiences. I bought an 8 weight Redington(4 pieces) and broke one the first time I took it out fishing and then broke a second one after two trips in a cast the top two sections just snapped throwing a clouser that wasnt that heavy. I know own a 5 piece Winston LT 5 weight that I love. The rod has plenty of backbone and a little bit of delicacy for those light presentations. I do believe some of the cost is advertising but I also believe there is a large difference in ($ GOOD RODS$) and cheaper more economical ones.

Just my thoughts,

CRB

Multi piece rods are very convenient when traveling by air or hiking. Try
several rods, you can get some great rods at a reasonable price if you are
willing to shop. I believe a lot of the cost in rods by some of the big name
rod manufacturers is the advertising.
