Same a few years ago with the forest fires in Nothern Mexico. Smoke all
the way to Waco, TX. Also, on occassion, I'll get up and find a good
coating of Dust from West Texas, the panhandle of Texas or other
western state like Nevada, Wyoming, Arizona. You can tell the state by
the color of the dust. :-P

Actually, it got hazy in Indiana this afternoon from the smoke in
FL/GA. That's pushing 800 miles from the fires.
