Marc,
Thanks for your valuable input on this.
I gather from a 'smaller engine compartment opening' the opening you see
in the horizontal plane if the engine is out of the car? Or is it the opening
in the vertical firewall plane?
The bastardised 59 has a post 68 rear clip grafted on. The best thing I
found (and am ever likely to find locally) was a 64 vintage clip. Id have to
make do with the looks of a non H-pattern clip. Same goes for the front end.
Most solid I found was off a 67. Can only find the pre 60 type in my dreams. I
hope with the 64 rear clip in place I would not have any major issues?
I am not comfortable with the idea of taking off one or both heaterboxes
to take off/put on the engine. It may be feasible when the engine is installed
but some years down the road what if the cylinder head exhaust studs break off/
strip while taking the engine off for something as simple as a clutch change?
Then it would be 'off with the heads' and the horror stories that follow!
As always you are spot on with your guess about the front mount. Yes the
butcher's knife has visited that area too, unfortunately.
Id now be on the lookout for a 60 to 67 type 2 nose cone. Early type 2s
here are very very rare now. Is it a direct bolt on swap??
If Im lucky enough to find one Id want to use the pre 67 tunnel shift rod
lever with it. Possible??
Thanks again,
Asad
