The II shift housing will have a casting number of 211
301 205 + something. The earliest ones (`60-`62) had
8mm mount stud holes, after which they were enlarged
to 10mm...with an early housing, I'd use the 10mm-stud
mount and drill out the holes rather than look for the
weaker 8mm-stud mount. A front seal was added (in `65
IIRC that's the 205G) and a provision for a backup
light switch in `67 (the 205H).
You don't need to change the shiftrod in the tunnel to
use a 211 nosecone, but you MUST use the appropriate
shift lever ("hockey stick") inside it - it has an
added "crook" at the end that aims it properly at the
shift rails. The distance between the shift lever bore
and the shift rails is less on the 211 nosecone, so if
you try to use a "normal" `61-up Bug hockey stick it
won't fit properly and will rake the adjoining rail
when shifting. The Type I hockeystick P/N is 113 311
541C; the Type II part is 113 311 541. It won't have a
grub-screw detent on top since bus shift couplers
attach from below, so you'll need to make your own
exactly 180° from the existing one.
