BTW, Jones.

 

That "pretreatment" can be loading the water with

H2CO3 - H" HCO3 -  plus all the other "acid" atmospheric

gases SO2 & NOx etc.and aldehydes.

 

Ours was sealed at ATM pressure minus 5 inches Hg pressure.
