Hello,
We have a DEC Unix box co-located at an ISP. This ISP had a very
competent sysadmin who has since left. The ISP merged with another
mom-and-pop ISP and now our mail is screwed up. It seems that
neither one of them can determine and solve our problem. Configuring
dns and mailservers is beyond my ken and I just don't have time to
learn that and create the marketing database I am doing.
We are thinking of moving the server to above.net. But in that case,
and even now, we need the services of someone who can log into that
machine (as root) and see what is what and fix it. The problem is
that sendmail has stopped sending mail. CGI sripts which were
working, not changed and work on other servers, are not sending the
mail anymore. I am not getting any returned (odd).
Sendmail is up and accepting connections (seems to me):
> alpha2.magibox.net> ps ax| grep sendmail
> 345 ?? I 1:18.83 -accepting connections (sendmail)
> 16440 ttyp1 S + 0:00.01 grep sendmail
> alpha2.magibox.net>
I am not sure how to test sendmail on the command line but I tried
this:
> alpha2.magibox.net> /usr/sbin/sendmail [EMAIL PROTECTED]
> hello how are you
> alpha2.magibox.net> mail

One of our ISP's (there are two since the merger) told me that mail
should not be sent to RELAY.USIT.NET. Oh well, I never told it to go
anywhere. In the past it just went.
So how much do these kinds of consultants charge? Does anyone on
this list have any experience with DEC Unix and would they be
interested in doing work as needed (at a web consultants discount)?
Peter
Might is not Right. But there is a lot of Might knocking
about in this world, and something has to be done about it.
