In an ideal world, I agree completely that we don't want 2 sites. 1 single multipath site makes the most sense so as not to bifurcate the community as a whole. However, with the existing structures, and our desire to deliver a site focused on pure users (admins, app developers, students), we don't believe we can execute that quickly. And, have thus started to look at a model that is familiar to many in the open source world (mozilla, mysql, ubuntu, etc.) as the next best option to address this.
