GOP Turns To Bush Aides For Advice
http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0509/22054.html
Republicans looking to recover from Bush-era defeats are turning to an unlikely
source for advice: top aides to former President George W. Bush.
Former White House press secretary Dana Perino, former Bush counselor Ed
Gillespie and former White House deputy press secretary Tony Fratto are among
those set to provide words of wisdom to House Republican press secretaries at
their annual workshop this Friday. ...
"Reuniting the Bush operation is like making a sequel to a very bad movie House
Republicans are better off staying home, watching soaps and coming up with new
ideas for their out-of-touch party," said Doug Thornell, spokesman for Rep.
Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.). ...

He's going to sit around the house all day in his robe being judgmental, right?
He might as well just stay on the job."

KARL'S ROVING STANDARDS
by Madeleine Begun Kane
http://www.madkane.com/madness/
Rove's memory's certainly short.
Back when dealing with names for the Court,
He said Dems must not nix
Any Bush judgeship picks
Based on views that they failed to support.
But now that the tables are turned,
He says Dem nominees must be spurned
If Republicans think
That their politics stink.
Consistency? Karl? Unconcerned!

Bravery Comes In All Colors

Chris Matthews: Frank Ricci's Italian, the other complainant in this case is
Hispanic. I don't think it's all about the Irish, but I do think the Irish have
a proud tradition of firefighting and damn it Joan, the guys that got killed on
9/11, a lot of them were Irish and they chose to be firefighters, because it's
a family tradition going back to the 19th century..
Joan Walsh: Don't race bait me, Chris. There are firefighters in my family. God
bless them ...
Chris Matthews: Then why are [you] accusing them of bigotry?
Joan Walsh: Because the fact of the matter is that they have protected those
jobs for their brothers, for their sons and they're public sector jobs. This
isn't the family business, Chris. Bravery comes in all colors. ..

Specter Switches Religions to Boost Seniority
- scrappleface.com
Pennsylvania Senator Arlen Specter, who last week became a Democrat to boost
his odds of winning re-election, again shocked the political world when he
announced today that he had switched from Judaism to Christianity in hopes of
regaining the seniority which the senate stripped from him Tuesday.
The latest switch comes just a day after the senator expressed hope that
Republican Norm Coleman of Minnesota would win his lingering recount battle
against Democrat Al Franken to ensure that the senate would still include a
Jewish Republican.
Sen. Specter later retracted the remark, saying he would "never want to be
perceived as a traitor to my own party like that."
Despite previous promises from Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid that he would
retain his seniority on key committees, yesterday the senate voted to bump Sen.
Specter to junior status on four out of five committees.
"Now that I'm last in line," Sen. Specter said, "I find the words of Jesus the
Messiah very encouraging when he says 'some are last who will be first'. When I
read that in the gospel of Luke this morning, I felt like the Lord was speaking
directly to me. So when Jesus said, 'come unto me, Arlen', I said, 'Here I am,
Lord'."

NEW ICE CREAM FLAVOR
http://cliftongop.com/new-ice-cream-favor
In Honor of the 44th President of the United States, Baskin-Robbins Ice Cream
has issued a new flavor, "Barocky Road." Barocky Road is a blend of half
Vanilla, half Chocolate, and surrounded by Nuts and Flakes. The Vanilla portion
of the mix is not openly advertised and usually denied as an ingredient. The
Nuts and Flakes are all very bitter and hard to swallow. The Cost is $100.00
per scoop.
When purchased, it will be presented to you in a large beautiful cone, but then
the Ice Cream is taken away and given to the person in line behind you. Thus
you are left with an empty Wallet, no change, holding an empty cone, with no
hope of getting any Ice Cream.
...but scrubbed it for some unknown reason.

SO LONG, PARDNER
http://www.newyorker.com/talk/comment/2009/05/04/090504taco_talk_hertzberg
On April 15th, a.k.a. tax day, protest rallies promoted by conservative
lobbyists and Fox News television hosts attracted a couple of hundred thousand
people to a couple of hundred locations around the country. The rallies were
called "tea parties"--more mad than Boston, by the look and sound of them--with
"tea" standing for "Taxed Enough Already." The partygoers' main target was
President Obama's plan for an enormous tax hike, under which, starting in 2011,
persons with incomes in excess of a quarter-million dollars could see their top
marginal rate go from thirty-five per cent to 39.6. This means that a fellow
making, for example, three hundred grand could see his tax bill go up $34.62
per week. (In a typical liberal trick, most people making under a quarter mil,
which is to say ninety-seven per cent of us, are getting a reduction.)
Lifting the burden of taxation from the backs of the comfortable is no longer
the exciting new panacea it was back in the nineteen-eighties. But another
proposal that the tea parties were buzzing about merits the respectful
consideration of concerned citizens: Governor Rick Perry's suggestion that
Texas might end its association with the United States of America and strike
out on its own. ...
The Federated States, meanwhile, could get on with the business of protecting
the sanctity of marriage, mandating organized prayer sessions and the teaching
of creationism in schools, and giving the theory that eliminating taxes
increases government revenues a fair test. Although Texas and the other likely
F.S. states already conduct some eighty-six per cent of executions, their death
rows remain clogged with thousands of prisoners kept alive by meddling judges.
These would be rapidly cleared out, providing more prison space for abortion
providers. Although there might be some economic dislocation at first, the F.S.
could remedy this by taking advantage of its eligibility for OPEC membership
and arranging a new "oil shock." Failing that, foreign aid could be solicited
from Washington. But the greatest benefit would be psychological: freed from
the condescension of metropolitan élites and Hollywood degenerates, the new
country could tap its dormant
creativity and develop a truly distinctive Way of Life. ...

"If Texas really wants to secede, they should maybe join forces with Quebec.
Language barrier aside, they could probably pull it off together."
