When using Trove I use the cite template, for everything I source from
Trove, I havent sourced images form Trove as I get them from the source
site though I do find them through Trove.

As for functionality, making or changing to suit the requirements of Visual
editor isnt a good idea as Nick pointed out most users still edit on the
source page rather then through visual editor, citation and templates are
still problematic in visual editor, IHMO it'd be too soon in the process to
change to be functional with VE because that area hasnt been satisfactorily
resolved until it is it'd be a waste of trove resources as it'd potentially
be outdated very quickly. I suggest while being aware of the change to VE
the source code is going to be well utilized in the next 1 year or 2 even
further into the future still be preferred by editors.

Given your(NLA) relationship with WMAU editors and WMF its logical to be
preparing for the change but I'd wait until the community actually
approaches Trove to make the change
