Bill,
I to am having lock up problems, but mine may go a little deeper.
Explanation - Am running XP Pro SP2, Internet pages as well as My Computer
lock up and I receive error msg "Windows explorer had a problem and needs to
shut down" I click close, then error message " Dr. Watson had a problem and
needs to shut down", I click close. I can't use My Computer without getting
these two messages. Somethings my desktop icons disappear, not screen saver
just the icons. I use the reset to reboot. When rebooting it takes a long
time as well as loading say Yahoo. My Task Mgr stats are - 44 processes
running, 341m/1127m commit charge with nothing open but Task Mgr., CPU usage
with nothing running but Task Mgr is10, 21, 15, 13, 8, 32, 16, 19, 10,
7,....%. I followed your instructions in running Memory Diagnostic (all
night) and after 17 passes on the "T" test, no errors found. I'm also
running Panda Antivirus & Antispyware 2006 that I just upgraded to from
Panda Antivirus 2005. I hope I have given you enough info to work with, if
you need more [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Thank you,

My Windows XP has started locking up on a very irregular and infrequent
basis. It locks up so hard that I have to use the reset button to get back
into operable Windows. I have AsusProbe monitoring and keeping a history
on the CPU and motherboard temperatures and the voltages and have no
problems there. If it is hardware related it seems the lockups would still
be irregular, but frequent. I log out when I leave home. A favorite time
for it to be locked up is when I return and attempt to log back in. It is
locked up and could have been locked up for an undetermined period of
time.
Bad RAM?
Run this, before leaving home, and let it run:
Windows Memory Diagnostic (make DOS floppy or CD)
