1. real no kidding IP, not PPPoE. 2. *undersubscribed* DSLAM, not oversubscribed. I *routinely* get much higher than my promised throughput. 3. no issues at all in the terms of service about what I may and may not run on my side of the pipe. As long as I'm not a spam source, I can do whatever the heck I want. And they are not going to filter me or otherwise restrict my traffic. 4. linux friendly support on the other end of the line. 5. *knowledgable* support on the other end of the line. 6. *real* static IP addresses, not dynamic, and not likely to get changed out from under me with little or no notice. 7. added IP addresses (subnetted) for a few bucks more a month. Now, if price is an issue, then I most certainly understand. I'm kinda there myself. But I'll pay a little more for these "better's" - I'll drop my fax line before I downgrade my DSL line to save $30 a month. The reality of PacHell's pricing is that it's aimed at the mainstream user who does not care about the issues above. Fine - let the Win32 casual-user crowd have their DSL that way. But I suspect - and recent lawsuits seem to indicate that I'm right - that PacHell is actually selling DSL *below* cost to try to drive companies like RawBandwidth from the business. If that happens we'll see we whole new definition of "better" and it won't be to our liking. I see my personal commitment to "better" not only as paying a few dollars more for better service, but as a partial insurance policy to keep companies like that around.
