The main point they were making was that they wanted the new site in a new window so that they can visually separate my site from external links (a point I don't understand, since it should be pretty obvious when you're leaving the original site). They also enjoyed the idea of having the other window there when they're done with my site, so they can easily check it out (um...hello? Bookmarks?).
After perusing the responses (which I appreciate very much), I've made a decision against new windows. Thanks.
