Vince,

I am referring to your next lives. If you don't believe that stuff, you can
just enjoy your present life. Karma only makes sense when there are more than
one life. That is why it is more enjoyable to follow Sakyamuni than Mahavira's
Jainism. In the former case, when you step on an insect and kill it, as long as
you don't do it for the sake of killing, you don't have bad karma. But Jainists
insist that whenever you kill a sentient being, whether on purpose or not, bad
karma will shadow you. So you really have to 'watch your every step'. Better
not wear shoes, not clothes either. Nedists are very suitable, if they can get
rid of their lust. In Thailand, I will be glad to light a cigarette so that a
monk can smoke. But when smoke ban is universal, monks have to quit it.

Thanks, but I really don't anticipate any misfortune. Even in the inclimate
conditions of winter, we generally experience very few power outages and even
when we DO get them, they are for a very short period of time, hardly long
enough to allow my stuff to thaw.
Or were you referring to something else entirely?

I see the reasoning behind your argument, however, it seems to me that by
buying meat from a supermarket we must still bear some of the responsibility..
Buy pushing our bad karma off on the person who killed the animal for us, we
are in fact incurring bad karma of our own.
Mind you, this is just me playing devil's advocate. I have a freezer full of
steak, chicken and fish.-

I believe 'Buddha nature' is a mahayana Buddhism's creation. I have not found
original Buddhism literature mentioning the term. Some go as far as insisting
that even stone has Buddha nature. Let us limit ourselves to sentient beings
only who have Buddha nature. That means all animals, including roaches and
vermin. When a pond was filled with water to kill insects, the Buddha allowed
it, because the purpose was to clean the place, not to kill. By the same token,
if we eat meat bought from a supermarket, we create little bad karma, because
we don't do the killing. So animals are not created to be food. Therefore,
Jesus says, 'don't kill sacrifice animals. Use my blood, to donate to God.'
That is the highest ideal.. It is best to be a vegetarian. If you cannot resist
eating delicious meat, try not to cause to kill, to avoid creating bad karma.
Good luck.

Are some animals created to be food and therefore have no Buddha Nature? Are
plants and insects without Buddha Nature because they are at the bottom of the
food chain??
