"Quality or quantity"?

It's absolutely both.

In fact, you can't have one without the other. 

Quality without quantity is fakery and self-deception:

Quantity without quality is just your mind engaging in wandering thoughts.

My teacher used to say: "T'san Ch'an!"  ("Bore into Ch'an!").

It takes relaxation, when we sit.  Sitting is a training.

And good to carry over that relaxation at all times.  Muscular tension is the 
disease of the mind.

Quality and quantity.  When we're working well, one leads to the other 
naturally.
