I'm really not sure why you're having issues still. I have a very similar setup which is working just fine at the moment.
I might be going on old information but I really had tons of problems with the vmware image back in November/October. It was so bad that essentially it was broken out of the box. Had errors with discovery, all kinds of traces in the logs. The point being I eventually moved on to CentOS (against my will) and the rpm install which has worked MUCH better. Life was much easier after working around CentOS not being debian :) Soon as debian/ubuntu is supported without using the source install and we get a proper deb I'm going back. I really dont know where you should go from there, perhaps Chet sees something I overlooked but from what I've seen it looks good. I'm out of answers for this one.
