Actually I did not mean my little birthday poem was published, I merely put it up here as an example of low brow poetry that can mean something to one or more people. Having come from a related industry, I guess I do have an inkling what publishing is about :-)
Btw regarding not finding anyone who buys cards according to the card copy (jingles are sung, not written inside cards), have you walked into any Archies store during colege breaks? Take a look, kids buy cards all the time, after reading the copy inside, and then they look for people to give them to! Publishing poetry (and fiction, too) is definitely like a marooned person setting an SOS bottle adrift when it is a piece of vanity publishing. Rumjhum > all interaction is generally validated by commerce. In other words will someone pay to read ur work. Any and every interaction cannot amount to publishing - say i dont have to pay my mom to listen to my travails in office, or my friends to listen to the latest joke i read in the internet. But commercialised interaction is a different ball game; cause the issue is - will someone pay to hear me. Am I good enough? Sometimes publishing poems jlt is like a marooned person setting a bottle with an SOS message adrift into the sea. > Jingles in a Greeting card on the other hand merely supports an otherwise successful commercial paradigm. I am yet to find a person who would buy a greeting card merely because of the jingle written inside. > I did write a poem on this though and i hereby share it:- > > Commercial Speech > > Billboard poets > with commerce in their words > A Sophocles > selling chips and coke; > > A successful poem > is one that can sell > We now have Ad > for Ad's sake well! > > The title of our poem > is just a label > on an expensive > pair of shoes. > > Ron (07-11-1995) > > ------------------------ Yahoo!
