DDN should use the open source GroupServer platform to host an integrated e-mail/web forum/feeds experience!
We use it here: http://forums.e-democracy.org More info: http://groupserver.org In terms of crossing divides, we paid for a feature that allows for super simple photo sharing that automatically resizes photos and places them on the site. Attach photo to e-mail. Send. That's it. Also, we will be paying for enhancements in the member directory function.
