Regards, Lewatle From: Suzanne Saunders Sent: 14 April 2011 11:55 AM To: Lewatle Phaladi Subject: Millennium catalogue MARC to DSpace Our Library needs to import MARC records from our Millennium catalogue to Dspace. I have found various articles and references to the manual, but as a Librarian I don't always understand what the technical terminology means. Is there anyone else that has done this successfully with Millennium MARC records? What is the impact on Library staff? How successful is this import (conversion) functionality? Does library staff still edit the imported file before it is available. htmlpfont face = verdana size = 0.8 color = navyThis communication is intended for the addressee only. It is confidential. Thanks Emilio for the reply. Have the metadata included in your metadata schema, for example dc.school or whatever qualifier you use. 2. locate in dspace.cfg the section of configurable browse indexes, and add a new browse index at the bottom of the section as... webui.browse.index.(5) = School:metadata:dc.school.*:text (refer to the Dspace manual, for a complete explanation of each term, and take care with the numbering of indexes) 3. run index-init (there are diverse ways to invoque a new index building, regarding the version, use the appropiate one) 4, at this point, if you restart Dspace, a new index (and of course the possibility to search) will appear below existing search options (title, author...) in the standard search boxes 5 probably you will find some very long labes as xmlui.ArtifactBrowser.ConfigurableBrowse.title.metadata.school and these kind of untranslated labels. You will need to update the messages_xx. xml to include the new labels. In a xmlui installation is aproximately as described, except the needed startstops and dont forget some tomcat cache cleaning Hope that helps. So, you only set these configurations if want to do OAI-ORE based Collection Harvesting (in which case you need to setup a DSpace collection to harvest its contents from an external location). In your previous message, you had said you wanted external sites to harvest *FROM* DSpace -- in which case you can ignore the OAI HARVESTING CONFIGURATIONS. If you want other sites to harvest from your DSpace all you need to do is: (1) Make sure the [dspace]/webapps/oai/ webapplication is visible to your Tomcat. Usually it's available at http://mydspace-url/oai/ (2) If you want the OAI web application to be available at a different URL than http://mydspace-url/oai/ , you'll need to update the 'dspace.oai.url' in your dspace.cfg After that, restart Tomcat, and you should have your OAI-PMH interface available. You can test it by visiting the URL: http://mydspace-url/oai/request?verb=Identify For example, we have a demo OAI-PMH interface available at: http://demo.dspace.org/oai/request?verb=Identify - Tim On 9/9/2010 6:59 AM, Lewatle Phaladi wrote: Hi I have changed some properties in OAI HARVESTING CONFIGURATIONS, following documentations bellow and when I go to DSpace web interface and click on control panel, then harvesting and start harvesting the status keeps on bringing the message which says The scheduler is waiting for collections to harvest. Hi all We have managed to change the retrospective policy rules on items that we have loaded previously from and they were using closed license and now they are open for anonymous user to access, the little problem we have is that we can only change them one by one and we have more than 300 items in that collection, if there is anyone who can advice on how to change the policy in order to apply to the entire collection simultaneously. I logged on to dspace, click on Administer, Authorization , Advanced/Item Wildcard Policy Admin Tool, that is where I was editing the policies but they worked for me on item by item not whole collection. Hopefully you'll not need to change any configuration settings initially - we always try to make as much of it 'work out the box' as possible. There is one URL that is important with SWORD - the Service Document. This is usually found at: - http://your-repository.com/sword/servicedocument Requesting this will ask for your username and password. It returns an XML document that explains which collections the user can deposit into, and what the deposit URLs are. They are typically in the form of: - http://your-repository.com/sword/deposit/{collection-handle} - http://your-repository.com/sword/deposit/123456789/562 To use SWORD you will need a SWORD client. This can be as simple as 'curl' on the command line. There is a simple online SWORD client at: - http://client.swordapp.org/client/ However this client isn't really designed for end users, as you usually want to be able to hide details such as the service document from them. You should be able to simply make changes to your theme.xsl file to enable it (and perhaps messages.xml). No java coding would be necessary using this method. You could do something very similar to what I have explained here for the inclusion of the video tag for HTML5 pseudo streaming. http://neoarch.wordpress.com/2009/12/15/using-the-html-5-video-tag-in-ds pace/ Instead of embedding the video tag, you would put in code to embed the viewer. Re: [Dspace-tech] index-all script
Hi Manu For me it worked well and I believe even for you it will work, inside my bin directory I have used index-init after restoring my database dump and linking my assetstore to the right PATH as well as setting up the handle server again. I never stopped Tomcat but after running index-init I have restarted the Tomcat and everything applied. Regards, Lewatle From: ManuMohedano [mailto:manumohed...@usal.es] Sent: 19 April 2010 01:09 PM To: dspace-tech@lists.sourceforge.net Subject: [Dspace-tech] index-all script Hi all. We need to re-index all the content of our Dspaces instalation. We have a quite big assetstore (about 80 GB) and I guess it would take some time to complete the task. Is it neccesary to stop Tomcat server to run the index-init script?. Would everything work in Dspace as usual during the reindex process? Thank's. Regards.
