[Dspace-tech] Dspace Installation on Test server Done

2010-04-14 Thread Lewatle Phaladi
Hi Hilton

I setup anything from start, the prerequisites packages etc. and follow
all the installation steps and anything works fine.

The only problem is when I try to access the site on other machine using
http://ipaddress:8180/jspui I got the error message saying :

While trying to retrieve the URL: http://ipaddress:8180/jspui

The following error was encountered:

*   Access Denied.

Access control configuration prevents your request from being allowed at
this time. Please contact your service provider if you feel this is
incorrect.

Your cache administrator is ithelp.

I suspect that this port is blocked by firewall and on my previous
installation I was using port 8080.

Regards,

Lewatle

Hi Letwale

Speak to your campus IT network administrator.

We have intelligent network installed and only allow certain ports to certain
machines to help stem the tide of illegal sharing.

Cheers

Hi

I recommend wait and see, but while waiting for version 1.6.1 I also
believe is good idea to run 1.6.0 on test instance, this will simplify

Any concerns?

Are there any major bugs that have compelled you to consider downgrading
or you see it as a stable release.

Do you recommend a wait see strategy or rather wait for bug-fix

Thank you

Ah, okay. You'll need to make some changes to your layout or try a different
theme as the XMLUI controls thumbnail display and not the config file.

Check out the ./config/xmlui.xconf's themes section if you want to change the
theme.

Re: [Dspace-tech] help with dspace on windows

2010-03-23 Thread Lewatle Phaladi
Hi

If you still got the same problem please make certain that you export your JAVA
environment variable, as a Dspace user logged on

Example (use your correct location and version no.)

$ export JAVA_HOME=/usr/jdk/instances/jdk1.5.0/jre

And then restart tomcat

Example on Ubuntu

$ sudo service tomcat restart or

$sudo /etc/init.d/tomcat restart

Hey Manuel,

I think that being able to access DSpace via the url
http://localhost:8080/dspace is a next step. At first, you should be able to
access it by specifying which presentation layer you want, either:
http://localhost:8080/xmlui or http://localhost:8080/jspui

Looking into your C:/DSpace/Webapps/, you should have a folder xmlui, and a
folder jspui, but no folder named dspace in there.

Equivalently with your C:\Program Files\Apache Software
Foundation\Tomcat\webapps

I think its typically through proxies and rewrites that the url /dspace points
to either /xmlui or /jspui

Hi Lewatle,

The Tapir development was done quite a few years ago now by Richard
Jones against Dspace 1.3 (I think). Much of the code subsequently found
its way into future versions of DSpace. I think it might be difficult to
apply the old Tapir code to recent versions of Dspace. Its certainly not
something we actively support now at Edinburgh.

Sorry, Robin.

Re: [Dspace-tech] bulk imort licensing

2009-11-16 Thread Lewatle Phaladi
Hi Baseer

About the license you should paste your license.txt file in a directory
that you put all your files like contents, Dublin_core.xml, file1.pdf,
file2.pdf, file3.pdf, file4.odt, license.txt

After that change to your DSPace bin directory and run commands as :

$cd dspace-src/dspace/bin

$ su

Enter your root pwd or use sudo

# ./import -a -e lewatle.phal...@wits.ac.za -c 123456789/7166 -s
/export/ -m wiremap

Info

Don't give all folder names like if you saved your files in
/export/myimport

Just type export on your command line and omit myimport which is the
folder containing the files you are importing including the license as
well.

Hello ,

This is Baseer ,

i have recently made a bulk import in Dspace using Google summer code it
worked fine .

Now i have to do one more bulk import , i have to embede the license in
the import too.

For your reference i am copying your previous email about bulk import .

Can you expalin me a little bit more about adding the license whether i
should generate it from the code or

after generating the code i have to add a text file license in the bulk
import folder and then run the dsrun command .

If you could expalin this a little bit more it will be really helpful
for me .

[Dspace-tech] Setting up Handle-Identifier(prefix)

2009-09-16 Thread Lewatle Phaladi
Hi All

on our test server i did setup handle from default 123456789 prefix to 1900
just for test before we request handle prefix from handle.net, the handle
prefix appear most places on our DSpace communities, collections but the
problem is the handle prefix(identifier) doesn't appear on URI

On item i need my handle to change on URI: from
URI:http://hdl.handle.net/123456789/5027 to

URI:http://hdl.handle.net/1900/5027

when i updated my handle the script update-handle-prefix failed as a results i
updated my old identifiers(handle prefix) from database (in table handle) to
1900 and modify dspace.cfg as well as handle configuration file.

Can anyone who changed her/his handle show me a way to do that.

If you may check you will see that handle prefix on my
URI:http://hdl.handle.net/123456789/7178
is never changed to new one which i updated to 1900 like
URI:http://hdl.handle.net/123456789/7178, but the one that appears above on the
web page you will see that it has changed.
Remember this number i never got it from handle.net is just a number that i use
for test so that after it worked I will replace it with the identifier that i
will be getting from handle.net.

On my web brouser if i type http://localhost:8080/jspui/handle/1900/7178
it open the above page, the only problem is URI on the page and this happens
for only old files if i add item to a collection it uses 1900 everywhere as i
require even on URI:

On item i need my handle to change on URI: from URI:
http://hdl.handle.net/123456789/5027 to

URI:http://hdl.handle.net/1900/5027

when i updated my handle the script update-handle-prefix failed as a results

Hello Mr. Lewatle

I got your problem that URI is still showing
http://hdl.handle.net/123456789/7178 in Item.

This is because in your database handles are not updated.

The script in update-handle-prefix is to be used but as you have mentioned
it is failed.

I will revert back with solution ASAP.

I think you already got a response from the DSpace list, but, basically, you
need to copy the file Messages.properties from the
[dspace-1.5.2-src-release]/dspace-api/target/classes directory and put it in
your [tomcat-webapps]/ jspui/WEB-INF/classes directory. Then, you look through
the JSP source of the jspui and find the tag that you want to edit, modify that
tag in the Messages.properties file, and bounce your DSpace Java app server.

You can change many, many text and links in the default jspui site using the
Messages.properties file.

Hope that helps.

[Dspace-tech] handle-server setup (psql)

2009-08-28 Thread Lewatle Phaladi
Hi

As my [dspace]/dspace/bin/update-handle-prefix gives error, I also come with an
idea of modifying the handle table and change 123456789/ handle prefix

I tried on one collection it worked, but I need an SQL statement that will
update only 123456789 and leave other value, If you can check the values in
handle table and specifically handle column start with prefix and followed by
id like
123456789/7135

SQL statement that can alter our prefix (123456789) only in that column and
leaves the id (/7135)

I was using the statement :

Table name is handle
Column name is also handle

dspace= UPDATE handle SET handle = '85642/7178' WHERE handle =

that worked for updating single item,
we need to update them simultaneously.

Hi Lewatle,

In your [dspace]/bin directory, there is a script called update-handle-prefix

If, for example, your new handle is 858585:

[dspace]/bin/update-handle-prefix 123456789 858585

This will update the old handles with a default handle prefix without bothering
your new, correct items/collections/communities.

Cheers,

Kim

Hi All

I was setting up handle server for my University, and everything went well in
such a way that changes apply only for new submissions, if we submit or import
a file the file will take a new prefix not default like 123456789,

What we really need is to change the default handle prefix e.g 123456789 to all
our previous stored digital files and even to the new imported or submited file.

Lewatle

/dublin_core

All the above files copy them into one folder with a name of your choice

on my case I also copied the folder(that contains the files) into my directory
eg /export
then they look like
/export/folder

then
cd /[dspace]/dspace/bin/

# ./import -a -e lewatle.phal...@wits.ac.za -c 123456789/7166 -s /export/ -m
wiremap

Hello ,
I need to bulk import data into Dspace ,
Is there any possible ways of doing it other than manually doing it one by one .
I read about the data import in Dspace documentation but it does for a
individual entry in collection and the input format is in Dublin code .
My question is , is there a way that we can bulk import data in any format in
Dspace with any script ?

Let me talk about Dspace 1.5.2 as is the one I am using, yes it has a
graphical way in which you can export and add new item(import item) into
your Dspace Service, but if you are importing multiple items or files
then I believe command line is the only way unless there is somebody who
can add on that.

DVD disk it will be done readily as well, our error it was that we put the
source file with the container-folder as well, we were getting no errors but
the file were just not visible from the web interface.

Two things will help you to get useful answers:

o Don't Reply to a message that has no connection with your problem.
Often this is expressed: don't hijack threads. If you are
presenting a new question, start a new thread.

o Do tell us what your specific problem is. I am not able to
finish tells us nothing that we can act on. Step by step:

o What did you do? (What command did you enter, or what feature
of a GUI panel did you activate, or suchlike?)

o What did you expect to happen?

o What happened instead? Please include details, such as literal
  text of messages or dialogs.

o Why do you believe that was wrong?

DSpace, Tomcat (or your other servlet container), PostgreSQL or
Oracle, and your OS all write message logs. You can find a lot of
useful information by gathering up the relevant entries from those
logs. We may need to see it too.

Subject: Re: [Dspace-tech] [Dspace-devel] [Dspace-general] show HTML data

Dear Mark, it's the common behavior with all the DSpace installation i have
seen (MIT included).

The problem is that all the data in the field dc.description are saved as
plain text for security issues.

so the data must to be reconverted in html before being pushed to the UI.

so, do you know what is the java class that retrieve the information from
the database and pass it to the UI?

thank you very much
Antonio

 Antonio,

It is unclear why your case is not working. I can assure you that a
default installation of DSpace Manakin XMLUI will allow you to place
html in the form fields for any Community/Collection and that will
render as HTML in the Community/collection views without being
escaped, this is expected behavior. IT shouldn't require altering the
xslt templates to correct for your problem, there is apparently
something else going wrong with your installation. HTML escaping is
not used when the content is stored in the database, it is stored as
plain old unescaped html text. I suspect that there is something
concerning your environment different from a typical default
installation running on tomcat/linux that is giving rise to this
 problem.

the problem that the data inside the database are saved as text and
special character are added to avoid SQL-injection

Are you running some sort of sql-injection filtering in-front of DSpace?

Dear Mark, thank you for your reply,

  unfortunately i didn't worked.

  The problem is:
cocoon throught a java class take the data from the data base and pass
 them
directly to manakin without any change.

manakin build up the layout the sent it to the browser with the data
 cocoon
  passed

the problem that the data inside the database are saved as text and
special character are added to avoid SQL-injection
  so if i write:
  h3 Ciao h3 br/ p forever/p

the data appears in the data base in this way

  lt;h3gt;Ciaolt;/h3gt; lt;br/gt; lt;pgt;for ever lt;pgt;

and so what the browser receive is

  lt;h3gt;Ciaolt;/h3gt; lt;br/gt; lt;pgt;for ever lt;pgt;

  that is visualized as
  h3 Ciao h3 br/ p forever/p

what i need is to decode this special carachers lt; and gt; in and

to do this i can try to modify the xsl DIM-Handler (do u know how?)

or the java cocoon class (do you know witch one and how?)

  Thank you very much

Use well formed xml here and try to wrap content with a div or p

  2009/7/10 Antonio Cuomo anto...@parliaments.info:
   dear D-Space developer/user

   i have a question:

i have some html code in my Database in the description field, of
 course
   the
html have been transformed in plain text.
   so the database entry is:
   h3 hello /h3 /brpit is a description p

when DSpace shows the database content it actually shows the text:
   h3 hello /h3 /brpit is a description p

while i wuold like to say the html resoults instead:

   hello
   it is a description

   How can i do it?

   i see two possibilities:

   - Overwrite the java class that take data from the database and send
   them
to manakin in order to decode the html

   - working at Mankin level(but it seems me pretty much more
   complicated):in
   the file DIM-Handler.xsl

xsl:if test=dim:fie...@element='description' and not(@qualifier)]
...
   xsl:copy-of select=./node()/ -- call
   some
   html decoder here
...
   /xsl:if

I'm sure i'm not the first one who had this need... and i can see some
security issues concerned with the solution
can somebody give me some indication or a solution?

   Thank you very much
   Antonio
