Hi Hank,
see the recording section of this guide for details of the recording
settings of Audacity:
http://vip.chowo.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/jaws/Audacity-2.2.0-Guide.html

To record the sound that is sent to your usb headphones, you need to set
the audio interface to wasapi, and then set the recording device to an item
which will be something like usb speakers, and have loopback as the last
word in its name. In addition, set the number of recording channels to 2
(stereo).

David.

2017-11-28 Thread David Bailes
Hi Aiden,
you may well already be aware of the following, but I thought it was worth
checking.
The stereo mix input provided by the realtek chip allows you to record the
audio output of the realtek chip. Are you sending any audio to the realtek
speaker output? The usb headset is a different sound device, so any audio
sent to your headphones won't be included in the realtek's stereo mix.

A number of recording programs would allow you to record the output of your
headphones using wasapi loopback.

David.

I wonder what folks are using on PCs these days that actually sounds good. I’m
talking to a custom builder, and he was talking about just the sort of speakers
that would plug into a line out Jack. I have a pair of b and w MM ones on my
Mac, those are USB. And I’ve had them for a few years. They are very nice, but
I’m not sure I need something like that on a PC where I probably won’t listen

really not what I’m looking for. Any suggestions?

Re: Audacity 2.2.0 has been released

2017-11-04 Thread David Bailes
Hi Don,
In the case of Audacity, the only two differences between using the
installer and the portable version are:
1. If you use the installer, the installed version is automatically
available to all users on the computer.
2. The portable version does not include a copy of the manual. However, you
can download this separately if you wish.

I have a related question. I note that there is a full install version and

of the full install over the portable version of a program. If this is
correct, just what is the advantage specifically in the case of Audacity?

Audacity 2.2.0 has been released

2017-11-03 Thread David Bailes
For a summary of new features see:
http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/new_features_in_this_release.html

One of the new features is that clips are now accessible for users of
screen readers.

For Windows users, these are the direct links for Audacity 2.2.0:
1. The Installer version:
https://www.fosshub.com/Audacity.html/audacity-win-2.2.0.exe
2. The portable version:
https://www.fosshub.com/Audacity.html/audacity-win-2.2.0.zip

I've updated by Jaws guide to Audacity for version 2.2.0, and it's
available here:
http://vip.chowo.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/jaws/Audacity-2.2.0-Guide.html

As previously, nearly all of this guide is also applicable to users of NVDA
and Window-Eyes.

Unfortunately, there is not a version of Audacity 2.2.0 which is usefully
accessible with VoiceOver on Macs. The most recent accessible version on
Macs is still the screen reader version of Audacity 2.1.1:

Audacity Simple Question/Selecting from Cursor Position to End of Track and Deleting the Selection

2017-09-24 Thread David Goldfield
Hello.

I am just beginning to learn how to use Audacity to copy some old tape
recordings into mp3 format using an NLS C-1 tape player. I have successfully
installed the Lame encoder for saving to mp3 format. I'm trying to do something
which should be very simple.

At times, I have a few extra seconds of audio at the end of a track that I want
to delete. What I want to do is to select from the cursor position or from
where I stopped playback up to the end of the track and delete that selection.
I see several options in the Edit menu under Select which seems to be what I
want but they never seem to work. I wind up deleting everything or I select
audio in the other direction. Could someone please advise.

Also, I am able to monitor what is on the tape while recording. I'm also trying
to monitor the tape prior to recording and this doesn't seem to be happening.
I'd welcome any advice. I don't need a lot of handholding as I like to think
I'm a quick learner.

Many thanks.

Audacity and Jaws on Windows 10 Creators update

2017-08-01 Thread David Bailes
If the audio editor Audacity is used with Jaws on Windows 10 Creators
update (version 1703), then Audacity can crash. Fortunately, there are no
problems with other screen readers, so you can use NVDA, for example, until
the problem is fixed.

Freedom scientific are already aware of the issue,

Audacity 2.1.3 released

2017-03-20 Thread David Bailes
just to let any Audacity users on this list, that version 2.1.3 has just
been released. For the new features in this release, see this page of the
manual:
http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/new_features_in_this_release.html

Included in these new features is that labels are now easier to use for
users of screen readers. Please note that the default shortcut for
"play/stop and set cursor" has been changed to the letter X - it was shift
+ a in previous versions of Audacity.

There is a guide to Audacity 2.1.3 which is written for Jaws users, and
nearly all of it is also applicable to users of NVDA and Window-Eyes:
http://vip.chowo.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/jaws/Audacity-2.1.3-Guide.html

For Windows users, a direct link to the new version is:
https://www.fosshub.com/Audacity.html/audacity-win-2.1.3.exe

Unfortunately for Mac users, the screen reader version of Audacity 2.1.1
remains the recommended version:

a. Open the file in Audacity for Windows
b. Under Tracks I resample to 8000hz
c. Under File I select Export and in the save as drop down I pick "other"
d. I tab to file typw and set it to .waV
e. I tab again to encoding and set it to unsigned 8 bit
f. I give it a name and save it

The problem I am having is that it always saves in .aif format no matter what I
have it set to. It is as if it is not reading the setting in the format drop
down correctly. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Audacity 2.1.1 released

2015-07-18 Thread David Bailes
Audacity 2.1.1 has been released, and can be downloaded from the Audacity
website:
http://audacityteam.org/

A direct link to the download is:
http://www.fosshub.com/Audacity.html/audacity-win-2.1.1.exe

I've updated my guide to Audacity for Jaws users, and it's available here:
http://vip.chowo.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/jaws/Audacity-2.1.1-Guide.html

The guide is also nearly all applicable to users of NVDA and Window-Eyes.

Audacity 2.1.1 includes the following new features which are relevant to the
users of screen readers:
1. The transport status is now the first item in the status bar. This tells you
whether Audacity is stopped, playing or recording, and whether it is Paused.
2. There are four new playback keystrokes for checking a selected time range.
3. There are two new playback keystrokes to help with aligning and pasting.
4. You can now move to the first track or the last track by pressing ctrl+home
or ctrl+end respectively.
5. You can now assign shortcuts to the commands for moving a track up, down, to
top, or to bottom. The names of the commands are move focused track up, down,
to top, and to bottom.

In the Introduction of the Jaws guide, there's a sub section on new features,
where either details or links to the details of these new features are given.

Re: Audacity help needed

2015-04-14 Thread David Bailes
Hi,
In audacity to select some audio so that you can apply an effect, you have to
select one or more tracks, and a time range. So in your case where you want to
apply an effect to all the audio in one of the tracks, then:
1. Make sure that the desired track is selected, and the other one is not
selected. (pressing enter toggles whether a track is selected).
2. Select a time range which covers all the audio in the selected track. To do
this press J to move the cursor to the start of the audio in the select track,
and then press shift+K to move the end of the selected time range to the end of
the audio in the selected track.
3. apply the effect.

Note that you can also change speed using the sliding time scale/pitch shift
effect, if you set the initial and final tempo change settings to the same
value. This effect produces better quality audio, but takes longer.

When you say picture fact broken, what do you mean by this?

For your information there's an Audacity4Blind mailing list on freelists:
http://www.freelists.org/list/audacity4blind
And there'a also a guide to Audacity for jaws users, which is also nearly all

a WD My Cloud account, all the owner of the drive need do is to setup
a user and then make the appropriate access settings as required -
what areas the new user has access to and so on -.

The user can then log on remotely using the name and password the
owner of the drive gave them using their favorite FTP or SSH client,
makes for far more efficient use of the drive.

Only other comment I would make at this time is that the owner of the
WD My Cloud unit would be best to ensure that the ISP they're with
offers them a Static IP address rather than a dynamic one, you may
need to pay a little extra for this but it would certainly be well
 worth the extra money.

Re: Audacity questions

2014-12-05 Thread David Bailes
Hi,
assuming this 10 mins which you want to delete is in the middle of the audio
(that is, not at the end or the beginning):
1. Make sure the track is selected. Pressing enter toggles whether the track is
selected.
2. Move the cursor to the beginning of the section you want to delete. One way
of doing this is to press spacebar to start playback, and then press shift+a at
the desired position. The latter keystroke stops playback and moves the cursor
to that position. Note that during playback you can use the left and right
arrow keys to jump backwards or forwards by small increments and shift + left
and right arrow keys to jump by larger increments.
3. Start playback again, and when you get to the end of the section which you
want to delete press the right bracket key (which is two to the right of the p
key). This sets the end of the selected time range to where you pressed the
right bracket key.
4. Press the delete key, to delete the selected audio.
5. Export the audio to a new file (export audio is on the file menu).

Additional notes:
If the section of audio which you wanted to delete was the the beginning, then:
1. make sure the track is selected.
2. Move the cursor to the end of the section you want to delete.
3. press shift+home to set the start of the selected time range to the start.
4. press delete.

If the section of the audio is at the end:
1. make sure the track is selected.
2. move the cursor to the start of the section you want to delete.
3. press shift+end to set the end of the selected time range to the end.
4. press delete.

Re: noise reduction with Audacity

2014-06-16 Thread David Bailes
Hi Dave,
the noise removal effect in audacity involves two steps. The first is to get a
noise profile, and the second is to use that for noise removal.
Step one - get noise profile.
1. Select a small section of audio where there's only background noise. To do
this first make sure the track is selected (pressing enter toggles whether the
track is selected). Then select a time range which contains only background
noise. One way of doing this is to press spacebar to start playback, press left
bracket (next to letter p) where you want the start of the time range, press
right bracket where you want the end of the time range, and press spacebar to
stop. If you now press spacebar, this will playback only the time range, and so
you can check that you've got just background noise.
2. On the effects menu, choose noise removal, and the dialog opens.
3. press the get noise profile button. The dialog closes.

Step two - use the profile for noise removal.
1. Select all the audio. You can do this by pressing ctrl+a.
2. On the effects menu, choose noise removal, and the dialog opens.
3. There are a number of settings for noise removal in the dialog, but to
accept the defaults, just tab to the ok button and press it.

There is more info on noise removal on this page from the manual:
http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/noise_removal.html
And there's more info for users of screen readers in this guide:

Fumblin' Around for the ACTUAL DOWNLOAD CONTROL for Dream Voice Reader

2014-05-09 Thread David Plumlee
I read with interest the messages about the Dream Voice Reader, and I clicked
on the link in one of this list's E-Mail messages which said that it would take
me to the place to obtain the discounted version; but I could not find the
actual button, link, control or whatever it is that would have initiated the
actual download either to my ITunes on my Windows XP box or directly to the
IPhone. Granted, I have not downloaded very many aps or songs from the
ITunes/Aps store; but I have downloaded a few. So what I am seeking is a set
of EXPLICIT, STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS to bring about the ACTUAL DOWNLOADING of
probably both the free (light) and the discounted (full) version. I read the
description of the two aps, the languages that are available, and the notes;
but I am now seeking instructions to bring about the two downloads WITH
ABSOLUTE RELIABILITY. I have a valid account, and I was signed into that
account on my IPhone. When I tried to use IPhone's Search function in the Ap
Store, I got a whole bunch of results - none of which were the Dream Voice
Reader. If I read correctly, someone else on this list had trouble finding the
two aps. Hopefully there is an absolutely reliable way to get the aps on my
phone without a whole lot of fumblin'.

Poor Bass Response on Toshiba Laptop

2014-05-09 Thread David Plumlee
I recently bought a Toshiba 17-inch laptop with 8GB of memory and a 500GB hard
drive with Windows 8.1 installed. I am operating it with a wireless
USB-coupled keyboard, so it behaves to me virtually as a desktop machine. I
bought a middle-of-the-line three-piece set of Windows speakers from Radio
Shack, and I have turned the bass volume control on the subwoofer to max;
but the system does not deliver a very good bass response using the Windows
Media Ap of Windows 8.1. I have not tried to play music through my
good-quality home stereo, but I have used a pair of headphones which gave only
fair bass output. I wonder whether WinAmp or some other piece of software
would sound better on the laptop (I know of course that the built-in laptop
speakers won't sound much better than the $19.95 pocket transistor radios we
used to find). I have also considered teh possibility of getting another
soundcard or something to couple by USB or BlueTooth for playing music. This
setup would probably buy me another advantage: I could perhaps route music
through that box and Window-Eyes speech through the Toshiba's built-in
soundcard. I will appreciate any advice any of you might have.

Thanks.

Accessible MIDI in Windows 7 or 8

2014-03-08 Thread David Plumlee
For years, I have been running Cakewalk Version 4 for DOS 6.22. Since my DOS
box is dying, I need to migrate to something in a current Windows system.
Since I have a dedicated hard-disk recorder for multitrack audio, I need to
cover only MIDI. I'm looking for a program that will allow me efficient
editing using only the keyboard - no mouse at all. I am currently running
Window-Eyes and cannot afford to change to JAWS, though I might consider NVDA
if it would work better for the program I might acquire. My current Windows PC
is in XP, but I plan to migrate it shortly to either Windows 7 or 8.

As a stop-gap approach, I could get a refurbished box and load all the DOS
stuff I have on it; but I do not believe that is the best way to go in the long
run. I will appreciate any advice on the software that might work for me. I
have had much pleasure doing MIDI music, and I want to stay in MIDI because the
interface on my keyboard is only MIDI in/out - with no USB connectivity.

Hi Alexandra,
In Windows vista and later you can do the following - not sure about xp. Tab to
the seek slider. Pressing LEFT ARROW or RIGHT ARROW moves the playback backward
or forward by one twentieth of the length of the track. If you add SHIFT or
CTRL to these keystrokes, then the distance moved becomes one four hundredth or
a fifth of the length of the track respectively.
If you're using vista, then you can get to the seek slider quicker by pressing
ctrl+tab one or more times.

drifted out of sync after a time. Is this the case? If the tracks are out of
sync by the same amount throughout the tracks, then there's a latency
correction within audacity which you can set.

David.

could this be a synchronize issue between the two tracks? Could you for
instance, replicate the problem in reaper?
Thanks

RE: Audacity Versus Reaper for Multitrack Recording

2013-11-28 Thread David Bailes
Hi Ted,
concerning the latency in Audacity.
There is a setting for a latency correction in audacity. In the preferences
dialog, in the recording category, there's a latency correction edit box. The
default value of the correction is -130ms, and the more negative the value, the
larger the correction.
There are a couple of ways of adjusting this value so that tracks line up
correctly.
1. The first is just to use trial and error. You don't need to get it more
accurate than about 10ms.
2. The second is to use a method such as the one described in a guide to
audacity for jaws users, which is available at:
http://goo.gl/Qi2CeD
In the recording section of this guide, there's a sub section on latency
correction.

In addition to these two methods, I'm aware that someone is working on a
plug-in to partly automate the measurement of the latency, but I'm not sure
when this will be available,

David.

original message:
Personally, I could not get tracks to sync up together so that they sounded
correctly like they would in sonar or reaper. If someone could tell me how
to make tracks line up the way they are supposed to, I would give it a try
again.

For example, while recording vocals, my second harmony part would not stay
with the first, and I did not know how to make it line up.

That is my two cents worth.

Rhapsody works well. You can get it for only $5 per month, but you can't use

it on a mobile device at that price. And there's a set of Jaws scripts
called Rhapsody Blind that improves access in the Rhapsody application. If
you like classical, Naxos Music Library also works. It unfortunately uses
Flash, but is navigable. One problem for those of us in the US is we can't
listen to recordings made before 1972 on Naxos. Naxos has a plan for just
$20 a year, but it includes far fewer albums than the regular Naxos Music
Library. Also, you have to start each song individually. You can't just
listen to a whole album without physically starting each song.

 Hi!

This article is from an Australian writer but I wouldn't mind betting that

the conditions he describes are duplicated in other countries.

I've been using Spotify for the last year and have been - on the whole -
very happy with the service, I have a premium account.

My only annoyance with the service is that I can't use it on a Windows or
Mac machine as the Spotify software - last time I tried it - was
completely inaccessible so I use Spotify in other ways, _ I can use it on
my Raspberry Pi using XBMC, can use it from my Denon AVR2113 Receiver or
from the Spotify App on my IOS devices, I've not tried the Spotify App for

 Android as yet -.

The article linked to here talks about shopping around for other services,

I tried the Rdio service mentioned in the article but didn't get too far

with it, has anyone had any success with Rdio or any other subscription
 based services?

Audacity 2.0.5

2013-10-22 Thread David Bailes
Audacity 2.0.5 has been released. One of the recent new features which is
available if you’re using Windows Vista or later, is that using the WASAPI
audio interface you can record the audio being sent to a playback device even
if your sound card doesn’t support “Stereo Mix”. I've updated my guide to
Audacity for Jaws users, and it's available here:
http://goo.gl/Dzlt0Q
Nearly all the guide is also applicable to users of NVDA and Window-Eyes.

Re: Audacity 2.0.5

2013-10-22 Thread David Bailes
Hi Petro,
yes, there's a portable version available at:
http://portableapps.com/apps/music_video/audacity_portable

concerning recording a microphone and the audio going to a playback device, for
example a screen reader. Audacity only helps you with recording the audio going
to a playback device, in the absence of stereo mix.
To record the microphone and a screen reader, you need to send to audio from
the microphone to the playback device. There are a couple of ways of doing this.
1. Your sound card may be able to do this. If it can, all you need to do is
unmute the microphone input for that playback device. In vista and later, on
the playback devices page of the sound dialog, open the properties dialog of
the playback device, go to the levels page, and you should find an appropriate,
set of controls for the microphone input: a slider, a mute button, and a
balance button.
2. If you have windows 7 or later, then the audio from the microphone can be
sent to the playback device using software. The disadvantage of this method is
that there's an annoying lag. To do this,
on the recording devices page of the Sound dialog, open the properties dialog
of the microphone, go to the listen page, and check the Listen to this device
check box.

David.

If this is the case, then if you've got only one sound card, then audacity will

But if you're recording from a microphone or line in, then the screen reader
won't be recorded. You can select the recording device in audacity in all

Re: Audacity

2013-08-08 Thread David Bailes
Hi Mark,
one way of getting the audio to switch between speakers is as follows. Let's
assume that you've got a single track in the project, and that the audio in
that track consists of someone saying welcome three times.
1. Select all the audio by pressing ctrl + a.
2. Duplicate the selected audio by choosing duplicate from the edit menu. You
now have two track which contain the same audio.
3. Set the pan on the first track to fully left and the pan on second track to
fully right. To open the pan dialog of the focussed track, press shift+p, and
enter a number between -1 to 1 which corresponds to left and right. If you play
the tracks then the voice is in the middle.
4. You can now pan part of the track by silencing the audio in one of the
tracks for that part. For example, set the first track to be selected, and the
second track unselected. Select a time range covering the first welcome, for
example by using the [ and ] keys during playback, then open the edit menu,
open remove audio or labels sub menu, and choose silence audio (ctrl+L). The
first welcome now comes only from the right.

For general info on using audacity with a screen reader, see the following
guide:
http://goo.gl/bZIXh
It's written for jaws users, but is also nearly all applicable to users of nvda
and window-eyes.

may be able to help with a slight problem. Basically, i
instaled audasity software on to my new laptop last week, (something which
i'd got on fine with on my previous laptop), and although the sound is fine
when recording, playing the files back is very strange. Although the
overall quality is fine, the files seam to jump occasionally, so that parts
of words are missed, and the speed sometimes gets affected. Some of these
recordings are archers tapes,
so you may understand what i mean, when I say that the gaps between scene
changes are totally missed, and i'll go from one scene into another with
know pause at all. Do you have any suggestions about
settings i need to change? I've tried just playing around with it, but all i
seem to do is make the quality worse, or have know affect
at all, as i'm not as technically minded as some, i'm not as experienced.
If you like, i could up-load something to dropbox and show you exactly what
I mean? I've converted a file to mp3 just to see
if it was something in audasity itself, and sent it to someone else to test,
and its having the same affect. Again, I hope you don't mind me

Re: S B Live

2013-02-24 Thread David McLean
Yes. The digital output produces better audio quality by transferring the bits
(all music on a computer is broken down into bits (as is all tother
information)).
If you want to use the digital output you would need to purchase a digital to
audio converter. I am not sure if any of the Sblive cards had there own
digital audio converters in them or not so you might want to check that out
first if you have documentation with the card.
My assumption is however that since there is a digital output on the card they
want you to use an external digital audio converter.
Digital audio converters come in all shapes, sizes, and quality not to mention
cost. Also what kind of system are you going to run this into? If it's is a
good system (your judgement is primary here) the digital audio converter would
have outputs that you can connect directly into the input of your system and
you should hear improvement in your musical sound.
Hope that helps get you started.

I assume you have the Bose less than 30 feet away from your iPhone?
We'd need to know whether you're having a problem pairing or finding the

Once we find that out we will have a better idea how to proceed.

Re: Jambox with JAWS

2013-01-22 Thread David McLean
If your pc has bluetooth just search for bluetooth in the start search box then
go to add bluetooth device. Once you've turned on the jambox the pc should
find it and be able to pair with it.
To switch back just turn the jambox off and it should switch back to your
soundcard.

try looking at the
audioquest Dragonfly. It's a usb digital audio converter in one unit. Should
be able to find it with google easily.
They are available (usb DACs) at all price levels though. The Audioquest is
one of the cheaper ones at about $250. Don't cheap outon them much more than
that or you may as well stick with your sound card.

Re: Sirus/XM radio input channel by number in JAWS

2012-11-26 Thread David McLean
I wish I could answer your question but I have the same problem using Jaws.
Only success I have is on the Mac using Pulsar (no longer supported but still
works sort of) and Radium (another Mac app). There is a SiriusXM app for the
iPhone/Ipad and another called Musicdock. I know of nothing that works in
Windows however.
I do have one question for you though: What radio do you have and how usable is
it for you? I am a total and will probably be in the market for one so any
info appreciated.
On Nov 26, 2012, at 1:42 PM, Cooley, Daniel (Law) d...@pge.com wrote:

I am a user of XM radio and have recently hooked into the internet
functionality. Inputting a station by number seems to be quite a challenge.
Does anyone have any experience successfully navigating through the internet
station inputting process? If so, could you indicate how you locate the
correct input field which appears to be virtually inaccessible with the JAWS
screen reader. Also, could you send me an email (d...@pge.com) or call me at
415.973.6646 so we can discuss further if you've had any success.

I read a review by a blind XM radio enthusiast and he indicated that there
were third party applications that were accessible, but XM last year blocked
all such access and has a flash screen presentation which makes using JAWs
effectively almost impossible since that time. However, all I'm looking for
is a work around to input the channel by numbers. I can get the radio turned
on over the internet. Then one should be able to tab through to the channel
input source, but there is no consistent speech or field that I have been
able to identify to use in locating where to input channel by number.

In response to Kris Hickerson and Sunshine's question asking whether the 800
number stations are accessible through the radio or only through the
internet, it is my understanding that the high number stations including
those in the 800 range are only accessible through the internet.

Actually, I think my problem was that I had an outdated version of Tapin
Radio on my Pc, and until this morning, I hadn't tried either Cumulous or
Clear Channel because of my inability to get them previously. That's why I
am grateful to Vitek for mentioning Cumulous and Clear Channel availability

While Goldwave can manipulate so-called Media Foundation M4A files,
what can handle, and extract video from, .MP4 files? MP4 is the new de
facto standard for distributing standard-definition TV content on
Usenet. It's almost as small as the former .AVI (DirectShow) format
(also referred to as DivX or XVid), from which Goldwave can extract
audio.

And while we're at it, what about .MKV files, the HD version of MP4's?
Anything good at extracting audio from those?

TIA for any assistance.

Just back up the contents of %appdata%\foobar2000. As for your other
question about playlists, they are completely accessible in the

Access too. So without meaning to offend, you must be doing something

Hi. As a note here and a foobar 2000 user for a number of years. I have not
been able to access foobar lists with window-eyes at all. System access. yes
JfW. Yes But no WE. I have asked this problem on here before and I was told
that it was, and to be honest it never has been. Now when a track is playing
the info is in the title bar but thats it.

Just back up the contents of %appdata%\foobar2000. As for your other
question about playlists, they are completely accessible in the
default UI with NVDA, and I would imagine Window-Eyes and System
Access too. So without meaning to offend, you must be doing something
wrong. The Columns UI isn't accessible.

RE: Good Hum Removal Programme or Noise Reduction VST Plug-in

2012-05-31 Thread David Bailes
Hi Samuel,
concerning selecting the right amount of sound in audacity.
If you've selecting a time range using shift + left/right arrows etc, note that
by default, the step size depends on the length of the recording - the longer
the recording, the larger the default step size. However you can change the
step size to what you want by using the zoom controls in audacity. Details can
be found in this jaws guide to audacity:
http://goo.gl/dQ75G
In the moving the cursor section of the guide, there's a sub section on the
Step size of the left and right arrow keys.
Alternatively, you may find it easier to use the [ and ] during playback to set
the start and end of the selected time range. You can simply press spacebar to
play, press [ to set the start, ] where you want the end of selection, and
spacebar to stop playback. If necessary, you can then adjust the selection
using shift + left/right arrow keys etc.

David.

It is basically a virtual audio card. It allows you to basically do what

useful for Vista and later users, or XP users whose sound card does not
support Stereo Mix. Free trial with trial noise, whatever that is,

JFW scripts for the Foobar audio player written by Andrew Hart are now available.

Hey Everyone,

Jaws for Windows scripts for the Foobar audio player. Foobar is my audio
player of choice and you can get more information about Foobar from:

For those of you who use Winamp and enjoy the functionality of the Winamp
JFW scripts, Andrew has implemented some of that functionality into his
first version of the JFW Foobar scripts among other things. To Download the
Foobar scripts and find out more information, point your browser of choice

FW: More about the JFW Foobar scripts from Andrew Hart.

2012-04-14 Thread David Truong
-Original Message-
Sent: Sunday, 15 April 2012 4:07 AM

Hi folks,

For those folks out there who use Foobar 2000 for listening to their
movies/tv/radio audio, I've written some JAWS scripts for this media player
that you may find useful. Among other things, they provide the ability to
set multiple time markers for an audio track you are playing, as well as
commands for having JAWS speak the elapsed, remaining and total time of an
audio track. Essentially, they provide Foobar 2000 with some of the
functionality available in the JAWS scripts for Winamp. The scripts are for
JAWS versions 12 and 13, but should also be compatible with JAWS 11 and
earlier versions at least as far back as 9. However, I can't make any
promises as I have only tested them on JAWS 12 and 13.
The scripts can be downloaded from

http://www.jfwscripts.cjb.net

For any Winap users checking out the scripts, please note that while many of
the JAWS commands are the same as in Winamp, there are some minor
differences in order to accomodate the Foobar UI.

Cheers and enjoy,
Andrew.

One instance is you don't need to use the audio repeater if you wanted to
record directly from the vac cable. E.G. You set audio player to output to
vac cable, then in say total recorder you can choose to record from the vac
cable . As mentioned, it's not rocket science. The limit on how to use this
thing is your imagination. Also, the stuttering does not happen if you set
it up properly like adjusting buffers etc. There is a userguide on how to do
all this believe it or not. The Vac cable is essentially a virtual sound
card and in most audio based programs it is seen as just another sound
device.

David, if it is so simple, would you be so kind as to write a guide
for those of us who don't understand the program? I've tried using
it, and yes, it's concepts seem simple but I've never figured the
 interface
 out.
I'd love to know how to use the thing, it looks damn useful.

Re: Can audacity merge diff mp3 files into a single one?

2012-03-16 Thread David Bailes
Hi Prateek,
you can use audacity to merge mp3 files.
One way of doing it would be as follows:
1. Open the first file (ctrl+o).
2. press End to move the cursor to the end of the audio.
Then for each mp3 file you wanted to add on the end follow the next 3 steps:
1. Import the file (ctrl+shift+I). Importing adds a track to an existing
project, and this track is selected, and the others deselected.
2. On the tracks menu, open the Align tracks sub menu, and choose align with
cursor. This aligns the start of the audio in the selected tracks with the
cursor.
3. Press end to move to the end of the audio.
After you've imported all the files, to save the audio, choose export from the
file menu, and set the save as type combo box to mp3. Note that to save in the
mp3 format you have to install the lame mp3 encoder, as described in the guide.

David.

Re: Audacity 2.0 RC5

2012-03-05 Thread David Bailes
Hi Dean and others,
Audacity 2.0rc5 is a release candidate for Audacity 2.0, which will be released
within the next few days. When that happens, it will be available from the
audacity website.
Audacity 2.0 is very similar to the 1.3.14 beta version in terms of features,
but several bugs have been fixed.

David.

didn't use the old Audacity except to change the key of some audio files. I
liked the way they did it in the beta.

the following Foobar shortcut keys are what I use and may not suit you so
change as desired. If the shortcut key can be used globally meaning
 anywhere

Unfortunately you are going to have to manually assign these shortcut keys

how to do that as they have been posted already and quite honestly it is

simple to do, you shouldn't really need instructions to do it.

Definately sounds like that is the problem.

The keyboard lock is the bottom sswitch on the right side of the unit.
Slide that switch toward the bottom of the unit and it will announce that it

My guess is that it is saying Key Lock not delock. The key lock switch
is on the side with the volume. Slide it away from the volume to unlock
the Key Lock. I assume you're using a Plextalk Pocket not the disk
variety. If it's the disk variety, I don't know how to unlock the key
lock.

If we're talking the Plextalk Pocket and the Key lock isn't engaged.
Slide the lock into locked position and then hold down the on key for 10
seconds until you hear it beep at you. Return th key lock to the unlocked
position and start up your Plextalk again.

Re: Transferring GoldWave Licence

2012-01-10 Thread David Tanner
When you get the new laptop download a new copy of Goldwave and install it.
Then enter your license information into the Goldwave that you just
installed. That should be all that you have to do.

Of course if your license has expired you may need to upgrade your license
before it will take effect on the new computer. Remember, you have over
3000 keystrokes on Goldwave before you need to license it anyway. So, it
may be best to just install the new copy on your laptop, and make sure that
you have upgraded your license before entering the license information.

Hi I would like to find a good limiter for win amp.
So that when I am playing MP3 files I don't have to reach for the volume and
 turn it up and down.
While going from file to file because some are softer or louder then others.
I am using windows 7 home if that helps any.
And if anyone can post where to get any of these limiter suggestions.
So I would have an idea where to get them.
that would be a big help.
Thank you all and have a nice day.
