Now I could get onto the alignment. I tuned everything but I cannot get
the 160m board within the 1v to 7.5v range and the 60m range is very
low
.
Yes, the advertizing folks sometimes take advantage of differences like this
to make their product look better - called 'specsmanship' in some
engineering circles. You have to read the really fine print.

Dan,
Don't throw that resistor away yet!!! Yes, I agree that Acrobat Reader is
useful for stuff like that, BUT ...
Check the 3rd step on page 15 of your Rev F manual - you will see that R22
82k is placed into the holes marked 'D3'.

Glad you found it Ian.
That again substantiates the advuse to builders who encounter a problem -
check soldering, and then re-check soldering. Then when you have finished,
check the soldering!!! Remember, the circuits do work as designed and
component failure is rare.

a heavy grounded copper bar, but at $19.95 doing the metalwork involved may
not be worthwhile unless you have a home shop.

In a painfully slow, round-about way, I'm getting a Cebik 44' doublet put
up. I'm curious
if
you are looking for an inexpensive 2 meter beam.

I've come to the Alignment and Test, Part II. I think I'm having a
problem under the BFO test
. Get
some extra tips while you are at it so you have a variety for different
puropses - the tips last a long time with proper care, I just replaced my
first tip today after building about 25 or 30 Elecraft kits (I've really
lost count).

For my $0.02 worth, I would not predict any improvement.

Hi all,
I noticed that the KIO2 option uses a standard conversion chip like the
Maxim 232, but does not use optoisolators. I guess the optoislators would
not help when the KIO2
.
Also check all other components in the PLL reference oscillator area for
proper values and proper soldering. Look at the schematic to identify the
components (RF Board sheet 1 of 4, upper left corner).

Brian,
I am not certain, but I will venture a guess that C83 will handle more
current when mounted with its leads bent over and soldered to the pads. The
other thing I can think of is that the leads present a smaller inductance
when mounted that way.

if it is not
required. It can just lay on top the heatsink, moving air upward. If it is
a DC fan, you can put a resistor in series with one power lead and slow it
down considerably for less noise.

I just finished K2 #4498. it was running all test in good condx and Rx and
Tx where in the specs.
I let it in stand by this morning on 7 Mhz and sudenly I
station anyway, the NG-1 wideband noise
generator is a useful tool for setting up the filter alignment on the K2
(but alternatives are available), and you may find the balun useful if you
will be feeding antennas with parallel transmission line.

In addition, Elecraft kits with their quality PC boards containing
thru-plated holes are much easier to solder than many others without
thru-plated holes.

RS(T) report which indicates how well you can read the other station - and a
properly aligned K2 can dig them out of the mud, and !!!that!!! is what
really counts.

- but
do make gentle bends (radius of a large coffee can) if you cannot run it
straight.
The characteristics of a quarter wave wire apply - high voltage RF on one
end and zero volts on the other. The zero volts end is a good RF ground
point - connect it directly to your KAT100.
