& have found that it is now fast & highly configurable to my tastes
with a very wide range of useful features, so that is today's choice.

I forget what the acronym means (meta-object compiler?), but it is
basically how Qt (and thus KDE) apps convert their user interface
files into .h and .cpp sources.

I wouldn't try to install dbus, polkit and the like manually. These are all
dependencies of KDE. Emerge the KDE apps or meta packages you want and let
portage take care of dependencies.

You'll need to disable some USE flags of plasma-meta to avoid dragging in
things you may not need/require, like 'display-manager', 'sddm',
'accessibility', etc. Eventually, after you update @world, add any kde-apps

The way dependencies seem to work with portage, I wouldn't bother "installing
x". Just install say kde or gnome or whatever (see the docs) and X will be
installed and configured automagically. for instance, I installed this dell
