1. Your strategy is excellent ... that is, copy over
new versions of various Arachne components, until the
@FILE mechanism starts to work again. At that point,
the last copied components was the cause of the problem.
2. I'll advise of my progres.
3. By the way, there actually was a report "syntax
error". It displayed for a micro-second after all the
RCPT errors and was visible ... despite my drug-induced
haze. The haze is never a problem, because I'm used
to it after these many years.

If everyone on the (individual message), list receives 2 copies of this
message (1 directly from me, the other from the list)....
Then the mailing list function in Arachne is working just fine.

I'm doing my homework right now....<g g g>...wading through tons of
downloads, and will go looking for the docs on this EPPPD 0.5/0.6/and
higher. Found the RFC for MSCHAP, and apparently they DID bugger the
specs, in usual Mz fashion...but...there is no reason why our DOS
clients can't authenticate with it just like they do with the normal,
standard PAP/CHAP....
I hate to stir the list up, this way, but I thought some of you would
have some insight <g> into this, and sure enough, you did....<g g g>
I'll let you know how it comes out......the thought occurred to me
that this MIGHT be one of the causes of the reoccuring "can't
connect" problems we face occasionally, without ever recognizing
it. If I get a fix on it, we can file it as a possible fix for
some of those...

Hi folks,
these messages can be deleted by trash button if You hit it twice. After
first hit subject line appear at top of the screen. Clicking again at
the tiny visible piece of "trash" button You can still see deletes the message.

It was slower than molasses in the coldest winter weather of the South Pole,
repeatedly downloading things but not really going anywhere, redrew the screen
a few times. I eventually pulled the telephone connector out from the wall,
subsequently hit Ctrl-Break, after several tries that worked. I was returned to
DOS prompt in a weird mode, presumably 800 * 600 with 16384 colors, very
difficult to read. I mamaged to find C:\TVGAUTIL directory and type SVM 3,
returning video mode to 3 (default text mode, 80 * 25). Zip 250 was buzzing
madly even though Arachne was running from D:\ARACH170, where D was a VDISK
(what DR-DOS calls a RAM disk). I am not sure whether that huge 89667881.BMP
file of 2,089,014 bytes in the cache was from that download or the previous one.

Sorry to hear about the difficulty you experienced. The page
downloaded reasonably fast for me on my 166 Mhz Pentium and
everything was rendered and displayed just fine.

Yes, it's a bug ... and I'll be darned if I can figure out what causes
it. You can experiment on your own if you'd like, and confirm that
putting the ending ] doesn't change what happens, nor does removing the
<> around null, nor does removing "TO:" nor does removing "RCPT" ..
If you look closely at the top of the offending page in InSight, you'll
see there is text written to the top of the page under the buttons.
That text is *not* placed there within the code [you can check with F-4
to confirm that also]. It *may* be placed there because of something
else in the program code of InSight.
I've had this problem before, often with long subject lines ... but line
length alone isn't the problem either. And although in the case in
point it was what followed "[" which was placed there, in other
instances there wasn't a square bracket to be seen anywhere in the
subject line.
Only way to delete such a message [because that line nullifies button
access] is to go back out to Index and use "right click DEL"

How do you use Arachne sign up for a Yahoo ID?
I tried. Since they would not issue me a Yahoo ID I asked them to delete
my family mailing list account that I used to maintain with egroups. My
mailing list used to work just fine until Yahoo got ahold of it. Yahoo
refused to delete my account. For these reasons and others that I have
mentioned in previous posts, I don't want to have anything to do with
Yahoo.
I recently heard in the news that Yahoo is now in the business of pushing
porn. I don't want to have anything to do with any mailing lists
associated with Yahoo. You know how the porn promoters like to spam
everybody. I don't understand why anyone would want to continue to peek at
porn after he has already seen it once. Anyone who has already seen it
once has already seen all of it that there is to see. Furthermore, anyone
who would want to waste his time by visiting a web site instead of a real
live girl is a real weirdo and a sicko. Real live girls have much better
features than anything out there on the web and they are very easy to
navigate owing to the highly remarkable, intuitive, and interactive
interface provided. Furthermore, none of the protocols you guys are using
are unknown to them. You don't even need to know how to speak their
language!
