Hi Gangue,
I always check any pages I do with Arachne, if I think it's likely to
attract loads of DOS users, then I make it more DOS friendly using 'rach
as the editor.
Try

and clicks on into the site. I fully expected this to be a NO NO because
there's CSS and Jscript in there (ok LD I know I could mostly do it all
without, but the Js and CSS makes it easier in IE and Nutcrack).
I'm surprised to say the least. The pages and CSS and CSS styles seem to
work except for the bit where the Links change colour on hover. They
seem to want to display in the "red" colour elsewhere than where they
should, but if you click on the "blue" for the link, the page works and
transfers and the hover coloured false link disappears.
Also the links frame at the left hand side is written in DHTML and Js,
and I fully expecteed it to just give up on the display, but what it has
done is expanded the links out as a list of links, and made them valid.
What it does in IE is display the Black type list of main categories
which then expands each section individually, like an expanding menu in
Win.
Hmmmm. It's interesting to say the least. The good thing is if Arachne
can handle the default way what other browsers handle in full, then
things are better for users.

I'm was wondering if someone out there that is VERY VERY knowledgeable with
Arachne and preferably other DOS Internet programs such as LSPPP, could help
me one on one, as I'm hoping if I can't get LSPPP to work with my Arachne
that someone out there that is trustworthy could try to logon to my account
with my password etc., and see if they can access Arachne, anyways, my
problem is as follows:
When I try and connect to my ISP using the PPP program that comes with
Arachne, either by using the terminal and not using the terminal I get a
"PPP link is down, driver not installed" error message, this happens ALL the
time, HOWEVER, when I use LSPPP, I connect ALL the time with no problems at
all.
I've changed my ARACHNE.CFG to the following when using LSPPP to see if I
can browse the web with it but I get the results listed below:
";Connection READY ... connection is permanent, packet driver in
AUTOEXEC..."
When I do this, I get the "Unable to initialize PPP" page and then Arachne
tries to dial the ISP unsuccessfully as I'm already connected with LSPPP.
;Connection NUL ... do not start TCP/IP (run "arachne -c" to force this)
When I do this, I get the "No network interface available" and nothing
happens at all.
With both of these changes I've tried typing in web addresses but get
nothing.
So basically I'd like to get LSPPP working with Arachne as I use LSPPP for
my other Internet programs, so I'm hoping someone out there uses LSPPP as
well and you can help me. I appreciate all your replies.

Hi Curtis;
To use "Connection READY" the packet driver must be already installed.
i.e. You would run LSPPP (e.g.) from autoexec or the DOS prompt and
then start Arachne. HOWEVER, I haven't tried this "Connection READY" with
LSPPP so I'm not sure it will work.
What I HAVE done is started one version of Arachne which loads LSPPP via
Connection @LSPPP.exe blahblahblah....
and then, with a working connection I copy my PPP.log to the directory
of a different version and after CD new version I start it with:
arachne -r
My suggestion to you is to let Arachne load LSPPP for you until you get
it working, and try the "Connection READY" method later - assuming that
you want to keep LSPPP loaded and connected for some reason.
If the above makes no sense to you then I have misunderstood your problem
and you should send me a copy of your Arachne.cfg.

add to the ARACHNE.CFG file as I'm not good with this as I'm a newbie with
Arachne, as you said it has to be something like:

It's the input type="image" which NetScape needed. I didn't try it

The meaning of each item is in LSPPP.doc and any item not specified has
a default. I only use LSPPP for my packet driver. I use Miniterm to dial.
Here is my relevant Miniterm stuff: (*YOU* may require some login stuff)

I was on my way to bed when I remembered that you wouldn't understand the
above reference to EPPPD.exe.
Because I am using Arachne 1.62 which only recognizes the name EPPPD, I
must rename LSPPP.exe to EPPPD.exe to make it work. This is not required
for the latest versions of Arachne.

Once recall a post that claimed, if an attachment is put on drive,
Q, opened and contained a virus - the virus could not migrate to
your other drives, such as C, D etc. and do damage to files there.
If so, this sounds like a sensible thing to do with attachments and I
will impliment it. But I must wonder, - one one opens a file that
lets some kind of code get into RAM, go through the CPU etc. - can
it not then try to deposit itself in the boot sector or other drive,
as part of its binary instruction set?

It would have been good of course. But if we remember what Kaine said (in
the early 1930's IIRC) it's better for those who have much money to spend
it so that others who are less fortunate can get employed (and so on). Most
countries doesn't believe in what Kaine said these days but in a way it's
correct. However I wonder how many russians were actually helped directly
by this. In one sense paying the russians might have helped them keep the
"business" going for a while and the amount of knowledge they've gathered
over the years shouldn't be lost (well probably not all of it would since
NASA or ESA would probably hire many of them).

Well, I seem to be able to find my way around arachne.cz now, but I'm don't
know how I would go about tracking the referrer for downloads.
I HAVE examined some of the more interesting log files, but that's a lot of
text that I pretty much have to read manually.
Maybe one of those magic "grep" things would work ?
What string would I look for ?

Canadian eh? Yup. Hamilton, Ontario.
Curtis, I won't be able to help on that dial business until I get home in
about nine hours. All my LSPPP info is there where I use Arachne as my main
browser. And I would want to try out any dial method before recommending it.
Here I use Netscape ver 2.02 originally for reasons of speed on this 33Mhz
'486, but Arachne has pretty well caught up. I guess it's just habit now.
But still, it's probably useful to have a daily comparison between the two.

I certainly appreciate the observations of you and
Clarence.
This problem with Interlog has been driving me crazy,
for the last 2 weeks, especially since the @xxx
worked fine for 8 or 10 months.
I will certainly raise the matter with Interlog.
I wonder about all the other ISPs you mentioned which
are causing the same problem. If there is a high
percentage of ISPs that hick-up when they see To: @verge
Arachne may have to change to not display anything
after To:
I'll keep plugging away.
As a side note, the last 3 days, I've had not One Single
problem with the To: @
