Sorry iPhone, I have to disagree with you on several points here. If the music starts out on an audio CD then the relevant comparison is between the CDP and the CD ripping, not the subsequent replay through the NMP. - In this scenario there is absolutely no difference in how error correction works regardless of whether the drive reading the data is mounted in a PC chassis or a CD player. - Error correction simply corrects errors by using redundant information. It does not make any changes whatsoever to the audio samples. - An uncorrectable error is uncorrectable. This holds true regardless of whether one is playing a CD or ripping it. - Error concealment uses interpolation to 'mask' any errors not fixable by error correction. Again, this is a function of the drive module and works the same way in either scenario. Point being, that whether you RIP a CD on a computer or play it on a CDP you are very likely to end up with exactly the same bits. Of course that is not what some marketeers would have you believe... -- struts ------------------------------------------------------------------------ struts's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=14057 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=51311
